Don't let Christmas giving deteriorate into a trade. Don't embarrass yourself by giving more than you can afford. Don't try to pay. debts or return obligations in your Christmas giving. Don't give trashy things. Many an atlic could tell strange stories about Christmas presents. Don't make presents which your friends will not know what to do with, and which would merely encumber the home. 1 >r?n't in ve because others ex pect you to. Give because you love to. If you cannot send your heart with the gift, keep the gift. Don't give too bulky articles to people who live., in small quarters, unless you know they need the particular things you end them. Don't wait until the last minute to buy your presents, and then, for lack of time to make proper selections, give what x - your better judgment condemns. Don't decide to abstain from giving just because you cannot afford expensive presents. The thougbtfulness of your gift, the interest you take in those to whom you give, are the principal things. The intrinsic value of your gift counts very little. Don't give tnings Decause they are cheap and make a big show for the money. As a rule it is a dangerous thing to pick up a lot of all sorts of things at a bargain sales for Christmas presents. If yon do, there is. always the temptation to make inappropriate gifts. On one occasion some remarks oi Incledon, the once famous singer gave offense to a man vho resolved to have "satisfaction" for hii wrongs. Accordingly he hunted uj Incledon the nejt afternoon, finding him at dinner in a noted hotel. "Mr Incledon," said the visitor, entering the room in a towering passion, "you have been making free with my name in a very improper manner, and I've come to demand satisfaction!" After some parleying Incledon rose and, striking a graceful attitude in the center of the room began to sing "Black Eyed Susan' in nis most delightful style. Wher he had finished the song he saic coolly, "There, sir, that nas giver complete satisfaction to several thousand people, ana if you wanl anything more I've only to saj you're the most unreasonable felloe I ever met 1" CURRANTS, CITRON AND pD RAISINS FOR Your Ghrislmas Calte ALL NEW AT H IT/ MnDlwnnn D.W.IKIIHI Cliff's. [1 1 ' ' T1?ty Occur en an Average Twwrty 6 Timet Minute. ' ? The average person winks his ' eyes every three seconds that is to " say, twenty times a minute, ot 1,200 * times in an hour. This means that * an ordinary day's work for a pair of eyelids is from 13,000 to 20,000 > winks. 5 A wink is accomplished in about " one-fiftieth of a second, so qtfickly 1 that, as anybody may observe for himself, it does not in the slightest I degree interrupt contm'^us vision. But the notion that wirfking is in' tended by nature to give repose to the eyes is a mistake, the object of 3 it being merely to keep the surface of the sensitive little organs con1 stantly moist. The moisture, which 1 is necessary for the health of the 5 eyes, is supplied, of course, by the tears. For this purpose that is to say, 1 to keep the eyes continually bathed considerable quantities of salty r water are secreted. The water is flowing all the time and would pour ' out over the edges of the eyelids r were it not for an oil which is fur; nished to prevent this. This oil is secreted and supplied by little p 1 glands along the rims of the lids. * There is also a tear duct, which car? ries off the superfluous water and gets rid of it. . The mouth of the tear duct is plainly vigible on the edge of the 1 lower eyelid near the inner corner | 5 of the eve. It is a small pipe, which I | leads down into the throat, so that when one puts into the eyes anyt thing with a pronounced taste, like cocaine, the flavor of it is presently distinguishable in the mouth. The eyelids, if closed, are absoJ ltitely water tight. They do not ex-1 ^ c! ule light, however, nearly 60 well f.s most people suppose. Saturday '' Evening Post.
