Death of Mr J L Thomson.
Died, at his home near Harpers, i
on November G, 1907, Mr J L
Thomson. He had been a great
sufferer for several months. His attending
physician, Dr C Lee, went
with him to Charleston to the hospital
to have him operated on, but
they found his disease incurable.
After three weeks he was sent home
to his family. He lived about two
months after he returned,1 home.
His family did everything they could ,
for him. He was a kind companion,
a devoted father and was held n

Help the Orphans- p
Dr Jacobs of the Thorn well Orihanage,

'riends who are hereafter to care for sa
ler. She brings a little package gi
inder her arms?it is her all of
rorldly goods. So it was, only a di
:ew weeks ago, but now how differ- l{
int. Tears are dried. She is openng
her bright eyes to the lessons n
;hat come to her daily. Falling in- c<
jo the routine of chapel and school
?nd dinner and play, she is waking
ip, her young soul is speaking
:hrongh lips and fingers and dimp- 1
ted cheeks. I
"Someone now loves the little *
girl. Someone pnts her to sleep at night
after her lips have whispered, '
Our Father.' She is finding a
home, she is finding herself, she will
some day find God."
This little child was welcomed to
the loving care of the Thornwell Orphanage.
Every one of the 250
children in school of that institution
have had more or less of the
same experience. It is true that I
between them and grim necessity I
there is to-day a strong wall of de- ?
fence. Bu^the people who love God
and little children are that wall.
That orphanage is under Presbyterian
control.but it is for all orphans. 7
It turns none away because of its
father's faith. There are 158 or- <
phans from South Carolina under
its care, 62 from Georgia, 23 from i
Florida and the reet from ten other t
Southern states. Not one has a liv- (
ing father. J
