' i t / Beam of liss Leo Belle Vlltes. Georgetown, September 18: ?Our hearts were made sad when we learned of the untimely death of Miss Leo Belle Wilkes, which occurred on Monday, September 16, shortly after the noon hour. Miss Wilkes came into our midst nearly two years ago and accepted a position with the GardnerA Lacey Lumber (Jo. as stenographer, which j position she held at the time she was taken ill. Her sickness' lasted but a little more than a week, but from the beginning it was feared that the end was not far off. Only her mother and sister, of her near relatives, ?:*u u? ?l were wiiu nei wucu iuc cuu came. All that loving1 hands could do was done but to no avail, for she gradually grew worse until the end came. Since her coming Into our midst she has made many friends and was a general favorite with all who knew her, for to know her was to love her. She was a consistent member of the Baptist church, and a faithful and earnest Sundayschool worker and will be sadly missed by all. Her life was a beautiful example of Christianity. She was always cheerful and her pleasing manner won her many friends. She was ever mindful at all times to uphold the right and exemplify in her daily walkthrough life that noble Christian character with which she was endowed. She will be missed by her many friends, by her church and in her bome;but we have the b'essed assurance that her reward will be great. Our hearts go out in deepest sympathy to the bereaved loved ones in this dark hour of affliction. The remains were taken to Timmonsville on Tuesday morn ing to th$ tamily burying ground for interment, where the last sad rite was performed, Rev W L R Cahall officiating. A Friend. For Sale by W L Wallace. 1 FROM ROSEMARY TO MARIO*. Rev Railroad Is Being RaplfijPisM to Loapletlin. Mr. S. B. PoetoD, a promineot: business man of Johnsonyille, wa? seen by a Times yesterday and talked very interestingly and encouraging!j about the new railroad being built from Ro-emarv, in Georgetown county, to Marion. This new . road will pass throueh John sou vil lie, and Mr. Poston says the people there are doing everything possible to hurry me work along. The track has already been laid to Mingo creek, which is about 12 miles south of Jobnsonville. Grading has already been completed to within 5 miles of that town and the right-of-way has been cut to Lynch'a , river. The work is moving along at a lively gait and it will not be long before tbe two towns of Rosemary and Marion are connected and some of the best country in the State will be opened up. On the Florence connty side the / right-of-way has been cleared to Allison's landing on Pee Dee and the grading well nnder way. The bridge over the river will be a mile abpve the landing. f The road passes about a mile below 8avage, splitting Mr. Poston's plantation in two. Good progress has been made on the Marion side in ecariDg rigbt-ofways. From Marion, we learn that arrangements bare been made to nse :be Carolina Northern terminal as a joint station. The Carolina North, em is recognized as a Seaboard road, and thns it looks as though this is a more on the part of the Seaboard to go to Charleston, Mr. Poeton says that the people in his section are anxious to create a new county, to be made up of parts of Florence, Marion, Georgetown x and Wi)liam8bnrg, because of the great distance of the four county seats. The Johnsonville people are very enthusiastic at the convenience and business advantage thonew road wilt offer. They talk as if that town would be a county seat in the event that a new county is established.?Florence Times. ' Obituary. On the afternoon of August 28"? 1907. the pure and gentle spirit of Mrs Emily Williams was. borne on the snowy pinions of angels to realms of light and lib? brty, where oceans of joy and rivers rippling with pleasure were awaiting her. Mrs Williams bach been an intense sufferer for the past two years and despite the skill of eminent physicians and all that loving hands could do the iron grasp of disease knew no abating until death claimed her ag, its victim. til - I i W one was Dorn in Marion couc- * ty, S. C., on the 5th Jof January, 1869, and was the daughter of Rev S b and Mrs Sarah 6asque, late of the Western N C Confer- ence, but now residents of Lake " City, S C. She was a faithful and devot- ed member of the Methodist-church from childhood. She knew that death was inevitable and in a note addres sed J to the writer of the sketch, she expressed herself pathetically in the following language. While I feel deeply sad about separating from my loved ones ' , and friends I never - was so happy in my life. I am perfectly resigned to God's will. He is giving me grace to bear the affliction. I have long since left every thing with him." She was perfectly conscious till the last and the aged father asked her just a few minutes before she expired, if it was all well, and being too weak to speak, she nodded assent. Her gentle, meek and amiable disposition won friends among all with whom she came in contact. She leaves two devoted children, Miss Alice and Sumter, to mourn their irreparable loss. A Friend. |
