VILLMHSUi'S
OPPORTUNITY
0 GET ANOTHER RAILROAD THAT
WOULD 6IVE COMPETITIVE FREIGHT
RATES AND BUILD UP COUNTY.
The following clipping from the
leorgetown Times is very signiriint
and we hope that every-body
ltercsted in the upbuilding of our
iwn and county will read it careilly
and be ready at the proper
me to back up the project:
At the present juncture in Georgeiwr's
commercial history, when ef>rts
are being made to develop her
ade connections with the interior
f the State, it may not be amiss to
ill the attention of your readers to
le advantages of a new railroad
mte, which, if established, would
ut Georgetown into communication
ith a broad belt of fertile territory
ontainiug several progressive towns,
nd give it connection with a cometing
railroad system. Such a raillad
could be secured by following
route from Georgetown iu the genral
direction of Brown's Perry,
sere crossing Black River and passig
through the Indiantown section
f Williamsburg CouDty, thence to
>me point on the Atlantic Coast
due Railroad, either Kingstree or
ades, and thence throng the
forth-Western section of ^illiamsurg
County to Motte Bridge on
ynch's River, thence, crossing
ynch's River, to Timmonsville
ad tbence to Hartsville, and from [
le latter point to some station oh
ie Seaboard Air Line Railroad beveen
Che:aw and Camden.
This line would be approximater
100 miles in length, and, with
ie exception of the bridging necesiry
to cross Black and Lynch's
vers, it could probably be conructed
at a cost not exceeding
5,000 per mile.
It would be difficult to over-esmate
the advantages which would
icrue to Georgetown, commercialr
and otherwise, from the estabshinent
of this railroad connection.
t, would open up a large inland
irritory well supplied with timber
id containing many thousand
jresof the most fertile soil adapted
> the growth of almost every form
I vegetable product known to
outh Carolina. The development
I this territory by a railroad, with
le consequent increase in populaon,
the extension of agriculture
id the development of manufacires,
would provide a feeder to
reorgetowu which would greatly
lhauce her prosperity as a seaport,
id would, at the same time, prove
t incalculable benefit to the seeon
penetrated by the road by givig
to its people competitive ocean
ites and a choice of outlets for
leir products.
In addition to this, it would put
eorgetown in communication with
vo or three of the most thriving

liver is one <?f the most thriving
and progressive sections of the State,
embracing lands which aie probably
unsurpassed for fertility in any part
of South Carolina.
It is probable that at least onefourth
of the capital neceseary to
build this road could be raised by
subscriptions from Georgetown and
; other towns interested, and possiblv
another fourth could be raised by
private subscription. Tne remainder
of the capital necessary could be
provided for by an issue of bonds.
It seems to me that this enterprise
I would prove profitable from the beginning,
even if it should depend
solely upon local traffic but, when
' it is remembered that its northern
terminus will be some point on the
Seaboard Air Line, it is easy to see
that probably a large through traffic
would be developed by that connection.
I trust our peop'e will take this
proposition under advisement, and
that some steps may be taken to farther
the project and insure its completion
at au ear y date. It would
be interestirg to know what the
people of the neighboiing conuties
of Williamsburg. Clarendon, Darlington
and Chestesfield think of
this enterprise. If is one offering
such large results that I have no
doubt that at an early day men of
sound business judgment will interest
themselves in its promotion. My
object in writing now is to direct
attention to the advantages of the
proposition and to stimulate public
sentiment on the subject.
Yours respectfully,
Walter Hazard.

the Stomach, Heart or Kidneys, are
merely symtoms of a deeper ailment.
Don't make the common error of treating
symtoms only. Symtom treatmen
is treating the re-ult of your ailment,
and not the cause. Weak stomach
nerves?the inside nerves? means
stomach weakness, always. And the
Heart, and kidneys as well, have their
controlling or inside nerves. Weaken
those nerves, and you inevitably have
lave weak vital organs. Here is where
Dr. Shoop's Kestorative has made its
fame. No other remedy even claims

Thanks to Kind Friends.
We feel deeply indebted to
our kind friends for the manner
in which they have remembered
us within the past week or two.
| We have been kept constantly
' , in water-melons and also have
i received quite a nice lot of
choice vegetables. Some to
whom we are obligated in this
respect are as follows:
Mr J F Chandler of Dock
sent us last week a perfect head
of cabbage? one of the prettiest
we have ever seen grown in this
country.
Mr C K Eaddy ol: Cades presented
us with a tine water-melon,
for which we return appreciative
thanks.
Mrs W H McUee, of Belser s
X Roads, has kindly remembered
us with several very fine
water-melons and also vegetables.
Capt Frank Nesmith of Ben
son?one of the biggest-hearted
men in the county?never fails
an opportunity to send us something
nice, and a few days ago
he sent the editor the biggest
melon we have seen this year.
It weighed 39 pounds.
Our brilliant and versatile
Lake City correspondent, who
never tires exploiting the products
and resources and possi-|
bilities of Lake City should have j
seen a tomato sent us this week
by our friend, Mr Henry Baylor j
of Cedar Swamp. It measured |
nineteen inches around and!
weighed two pounds. Who can]
beat it?
Our colored friends too have
given us substantial to*ens of
their regard in the form of nice
melons, and we*- acknowledge
with pleasure the following:
Frank Green, Cedar Swamptwo
nice, large juicy wafermel
ons; Eli McFaddin, near towntwo
extra fine melons and a
nice, large cantelope.
These remembrances of
good will coming from those
whom we endeavor to serve in
our vocation are the oases in
the dreary desert of toil and
drudgery incident to the raak
ing of a newspaper. We thank
you friends, one and all.
When there is the slightest indigestion,
heart burn, flatulence or any
form of stomach trouble take a little
Kodol occasionally and you will
be afforded prompt relief. Kudol is
