Mr H J Brown, another sue
cessful trucker at Cades, tells
us that on 1 1-8 acres this season
he produced 213 crates of
beans, from which he realized
$215.75, and moreover he saved
hay enough to feed his cow
through the winter. Now, that's
the way to farm.

Our experience with gasoline
engines within the last nine
months has cost us close on to
$200 and now we have to start
over and buy a new one. We
haven't the money to buy this
engine, but to continue in
business it is absolutely necessary
to have one; therefore, we
count on our loyal subscribers
to help us out of this difticnlty.

on Tuesday, July 2, 1907, a
son, and a glance at Mr Askins
as he came down town told the
storj. It was not only reflected
in his face, but the rapidity of
his locomotion convinced all
that he bad one more to provide
for. Mother and son are doing
well and the sunshine brought
into the home by tbfc little new
arrival will more than compensate
the father for a little extra
hustle.

To His Honor Judge Memminger,
Presiding Judge:
We, the Grand Jury, beg to
make this, our presentment:
"We have examined all bills
handed us by the Solicitor and
; have made returns thereon.
We have examined the county
| jail and found the conditions
! there far from satisfactory. The
prisoners are very lilthy and
j covered with vermin and are riot
I provided with proper utensils
for bathing. This matter needs
immediate attention.
We also find that the roof of
of the kitchen has not been re!
paired as was recommended in

I be given attention.
We have not yet made examination
of the County offices but
have appointed a special committee
to make a recess examination
and report at the next
term of this court.
We beg leave to state that in
our last presentment we strongly
called the attention of the
County Supervisor to the condition
of the public highway in
Black River swamp leading to
Manning and urged that said
road be worked as it was impassable.
No steps whatever
have been taken by the Supervisor'as
was recommended by
this Grand Jury and we beg to
call your Honor's attention to
this fact and to once more urge
upon the Supervisor that he
take immediate steps to open
and improve this road.
We also call special attention
to the fact that the Supervisor
has failed to carry out our
j recommendation in regard to
| the bridge over Black Mingo (
creek. This bridge is in a very
dangerous condition and we
most earnestly urge that the
Supervisor take the steps necessary
to co-operate with the Supervisor
of Georgetown county
and build said bridge as is provided
by the special Act of the
Legislature.
These recommendations relative
to the duties of the Supervisor
we desire to call your
Honors-special attention to and
to respectfully ask that your
Honor grant us such assistance
in bringing them about as in
, your wise discretion you deem
expedient.
Our attention has been called
! by the Board of Health of
i Kingstree and by your Honor to
[the condition of the public
square around the Court House
land the unsanitary condition
; thereof on account of same bej
leg- used as a public lot, and we
< beg to recommend that said
| square be enclosed by an iron
fence and set apart as a park,
and that in future that it not be
used as a horse lot.

made his return to the court, afte
j hearing which, Judge Memminge
endorsed it as follows:

possible; and the Sheriff is not res
ponsible for the defective conditio]
of the bath tub, and the fact tba
that there will from time to time b

County Commissioners will not pro
vide funds to have the bath tub fix
ed and the Sheriff has no funds fo
such purpose. The Sheriff is no
provided with clothing to put on th
prisoners when they are brought ii
and they must remain in sue!
