With much regi*et and mortification we announce to our readers that there wi'l be no issue of The Record thus week and possibly none next week. At any rate not until we can get a new gasoline engine. We had< set about seventeen columns of type, and the forms "made up" ready to go to press when the engine we are using broke in several places so seriously that it cannot be repaired. We have wired * for another engine and just as soon as it comes we will o? course resume * ft A *1 il 1_ puDiicanon. until wen we asm. our readers' kind forbearance and indulgence. What this means to us in the way of expense , and annoyance it is difficult to estimate?at the lowest calculation the accident will cost us several hundred dollars. Coming jpst at this dull season, when it is nip and tuck to meet expense^ any way, it is very discouragipg and strains our resources to the utmost But if our loyal friends will stand by us as they have done heretofore we will meet disaster with renewed hope and pourage, feeling assured of final victory. It will be recaped that this is the second engine we have bought within nine rpofnths?both from the same agent iind both are out of commission. \ This time we afee getting one from another concern, that we 1 - know will make good its guarjantee. The wedding was a very quiet affair, on'y the immediate family and a few relatives and friends being present. The bride is the second daugb tei of (.'apt. and Mrs John A Kel ley and is one of Kingstree's most charming and popular young ladies. The groom is the junior member of the law firm of Kelley & Fairey, having been a resident of Kingstree for several years during which time he has gained mar?y friends. Shortly after the ceremony the happy couple boarded the North-bound train for James town and other points of interest. Lake City, June 24:?Who's aow grumbling that the weather is not hot enough to make the cotton grow? Those directly interested in the tobacco market are ready for the season now opening. The three warehouses are under the same management as last year, to wit: the King, Mr J D King; Planters, Messrs Motley, and the Star, Col. O T Hall. These gentlemen have had the necessary cleanning up, whitewashing, painting, etc., done; their respective corps of book keepers, auctioneers, and help generally are in; a number of buyers have arrived and things are practically in shape to handle the crop. The outlook at this date is that the best crop ever raised in this section is the one now ripening. The fields we have seen are certainly promising and reports have it that throughout this entire ter ritory the croj? are line Jn making this statement of course those fields which have been injured by hail are not included. In the marketing I^akr City will play a part and an important one too, even more important than ever. Some other markets have gone down and several have died; but (>ake City holds its own. From the beginning the sharp practices, shady deals and questionable transactions practiced elsewhere, have been studiously frowned upon here, and by frank treatment, square dealing and honest transactions i? ..* ?u?;u inis murKfl ll<t> sicauaj 1/um itself up. For those qualities that give tone and confidence us market in the State stands higher than this one. and, not withstanding many adverse circumstances, even in the quantity handled this town\ ranks very near the top. probably second?at any rate no lower than third. This is not "bragging," but a statement whose foundation is solid. However even "bragging" is permissible where there is a record to support it while "wind jamming" with nothing but shallow conceit back of it. is disgusting. Lake Lity as a leading tobacco market is an established fact and you can't get around it To Mr Richard Harheld be Jongs the honor of having "open ed the ball." He brought in a load of tobacco on Hie *2lst in ? i % i sta.it. It was knocked aowu to Mr L A Winston, who represents the Continental Tobacco ?'om pany. The second load was Mr J J Daniel's who brought it in on the 22nd. "13" stands so near the head of the column that he is often the "presiding officer," while "D" occupies the fourth place in the ranks of "twenty six." W. L. B. /
