Local and Personal, I
Miss Cora Daniel of Lake City
was noted in town Tuesday.
Mr E C Wheeler, now of Flor- j
ence, spent the day in town last
Saturday.

Mercantile Co's.
Rev W S Martin of Bennettsville
is spending some days in
town visiting relatives.
Mrs C W Wolfe and daughter.
Miss Stella, visited Mrs J M
Sturgeon in Lake City Sunday.
Mr C G Huggins, a sawyer in
the mill of Uapt D R Smith at
Smith Mills, had an arm cut off
by the saw one day last week.
Some Kingstree ball players
went over to Sumter last week
and got "done up" in a couple
of ball games with the Sumter
. *
team.
Misses Sallie Cox of CampHeld,
Buby Graham of Cades and
Essie Spann of (ireelyville were
among the visitors to the graded
school commencement.
f Owing to the absence of the
pastor, Rev J E Mahaffey, who
is to deliver the commencement
sermon at Johnsonville next
Sunday, there will be no preaching
in the Methodist church here
on that day.
We had the pleasure last week
of a visit from our old friend,
Mr Isaac Epps, who lived in
Williamsburg for many years,
but now resides in Berkeley
?9\inty. Mr Epps is here on a
visit to relatives and is renewing
acquaintance with his numerous
friends.
Rev D M Fulton of Darling-;
ton, having preached the com-!
mencement sertaon in the school j
auditorium last Sunday morning,
preached also in the Methodist
church on Sunday night to
a very large congregation. Both
sermons were of a high order
and very much enjoyed by our
people.
Joe Coward came down town >
last Friday morning his face:
aglow with "that smile that;
won't come off." He was inquir- j
ing for the census taker, stating ;
that our little city's population j
had been increased by a unit, j
Further inquiry elicited the fact j
that it was a girl and weighed I
eight pounds.

children, Wilson and Mabel of:
Georgetown, have been visiting j
Airs Buie's sister, Mrs H GI
Askins. Mrs liuie, as Miss j
Mabel Benjamin, spent her girl- j
hood days here and Mr l>uie also !
was for several years a resident
of Kingstree.
Miss Emma Ariall, one of the !
graded school faculty recently ;
re-elected, has tendered her
resignation to the trustees and !
we understand that it has been i
accepted. As there will be!
, t another grade teacher added for i
the ensuing term, this leaves j
two vacancies to be filled.

Last weak Mr J J Graham
presented us with a head of
cabbage of his raising that was
"some cabbage." The mammoth
specimen measured twelve
inches across the head and
weighed nine pounds. The
opposite outer leaves were
twenty-one inches apart. And
yet there are no truckers in
Kingstree.

chapeonage of Profs Bethea and

teachers. The children4 seemed
to appreciate the courtesy

cordial relations between teachers
and pupils.

in a bridge near the "China

and causing its death. He
says that the planks were rotten
and broke through. The mule,
he claims, was a valuable one,
worth $225,

is having built. Later on Mr
Kellahan will put up four more
brick stores on the site of the
recent tire on Main street. Meantime

I Our genial townsman, Mr H A
i Meyer, entertained a partv ot
; friends Tuesday night with a lunjcheon
given in the hall over Jaicobs&
Scott's store, at which
we had the pleasure of being
"among those present." Mr
Meyer is a spiendid host and the
spread provided included appetizing
and tempting viands
daintily served. About fifteen
gathered about the table and
after partaking of the delightful
menu a number of toasts
were responded to by various
persons present. It was a very
pleasant gathering and every
one went away impressed with
the social amenities of the occasion.
