Columbia, April 6:?Three counties hare filed with Dispensary Auditor West the statements of the conditions of the dispensaries in those counties and the business done during the first quarter of the system's existence. These three counties are Clarendon, Kershaw and Laurens. None of these or any others, except Lexington, so far as noticed, have inserted the requiied advertisements in the county papers, but this may be due to the fact that some of the county papers for this week have not yet been issued or at least not received here. According to the report from the Clarendon county board of control the receipts have been $3,826 40 and the liabilities are $6,785 75. The Kershaw board reports liabilities of $1,072 39 and receipts of $6,297 28, | out of which evidently some portion j of the stock of whiskey on hand has been paid for judging from the smal! liability. The Lauiens board reports receipts of $4,282 95 for onej dispensary and $184 for the other; an expenditure of $946 14 and liability of $9,736 22 for one dispensary and $373 12 for the other; evidently the stock of whiskey not yet having beeD paid for. The most complete statement yet made public is that of the Lexiugton county board, published this week ih the Lexington Dispatch. The. ar#? thrpp dignensariea in that couq'j?at Lexington, at Gilbert and at Peak. The following state merit is made: Receipts. Lexington $ 850 15 Gilbert/. 468 70 Peak 35105 $1,669 90 Expenditures. Lexington $ 663 95 Gilbert 391 26 Peak 329 92 $1,385 13 | Liabilities, j LexiDgton $ 871 13 Gilbert...*. 419 64 Peak 887 52 i $2,178 29 The statement of the Lexington county board as to profits is given as follows: Lexington $186 20 Gilbert 77 04 Peak 21 13 $284 37 This is for only fifteen days' busi ness, snowing at present rates a monthly profit of $568 74 or nearly $7,009 per year?:o the exact, $6,824 98. However, the business of the dispensaries is greater during the fall and wmter months and upon the basis of the last 15'days' business it is fair to estimate that Lexington county this year will make much more than $7,200 pel yea? or $600 per month, especially as whiskey may be bought at lower prices than the county board bus had to pay for the stock on hand. According to the report of the State dispensary directors for 1906, Lexington county dispensaries made the following pvofits for that year; Lexington, $2,909 58; Gilbert, $87447; Peak, $1,284 70, a total of $5,068 75; which sum was divided be* ; =r ' mmmmmmmm ; always i ATCH LINE. I :harleston, s. c. 3 tween the county and the towns in which dispensaries were located. In additioA the county received from the profits of the State dispensary for the school fund the sum of $1,713 81, making a total of $6,781 56.So that under the new system Lexington connty is not at all likely to lose money by the change, and has ' -. V the chance of making a good deal more. Under the Carey-Cothran ' law the profits of the Lexington dispensaries are to be divided equally between the ordinary county fund, the county school fund and the towns in which the dispensaries are located. The schools of Lexington will, therefore, receive a larger stim $ than formerly from the dispensary profits. Under the Carey-Cothran law t8e county boards are required to publish during the first week of each month a 8worn statement of the receipts, expenditures and liabilities of each dispensary for the'precedirig month, this to be inserted in aome newspaper y published within the county that week. Ou the first days of April, T.l_ 1-1 1 T tit*. J III) , WULOUCI auu oauuatj mis. boards are also required to file with r-'| the clerk of court aod to publish in some newspaper in 'the county a sworn statement of the profits of V each dispensary for the three months ' $0 preceding, and the profits are forthwith to be divided as the act ' ?'1 provides, the division being different " A a fhn Qvotnm Ill UlUClCUb wuuuro, XXO vuv ajwwmi * > is new the county boards hare doubtless been slow about getting op those statements, but the Lexington county statements, which are referred to above, give an idea of how the system is working. The Richland county board has on hand about , " $37,000 and has liabilities cf about $60,000. Many of the county boards have advertised for bids and most of them will purchase whiskey during this month. Are you troubled with piles?
