Why Popcorn Pops.
<fWhat makes popcorn pop?" asks
:he inquisitive youngster. By the
svasive replies he receives it is evilent
that the real reason i9 not gen;rally
known. The different kind9
)f corn contain oil in varying projortions.
In popcorn there is a
:onsiderable amount. This expands
vhen heated, becomes explosive and
sauses the kernels to pop open. In
:ommon corn the percentage of oil
s small, and for this reason it only
:racks, without exploding, when
leated, says Good Housekeeping.
Popcorn is inexpensive and nutri;ious
as well if not used to overinlulgence.
