the wreck presented a scene ,
long ti> be remembered. 1 lie
large locomotive pulling the
vestibule'train, running at torty
miles an hour, dashed into an ,
open switch and into the engine
of a freight train standing on
the side track. The freight
train was nor over forty feet
from the entrance to the switch,
and before the crew of either
train had time to jump the engines
were together. The observation
car of the vestibule
train wa.s telescoped and caught
tire, and almost before the passengers
realized what had happened
the three forward coach
es were burning.
There was only one passenger
in the observation car and
the negro porter. The passeng-'
er was killed and burned to a 1
crisp; the porter saved himself jj
by breaking a window and jump-;;
in"- trom the burning car. i ne

car, two Pullmans and several!,
freight cars were burned to the

Death of A Young Man.
Louis O'Bryan, a son of Mr|
W M O'Bryan of Heinemann,1
passed away this (Friday) morning'
at 10:15 o'clock, after a!
lingering illness. He was just
nineteen years of age. Mr O'Bryan
came here about a year
ago to take a position as book
keeper for the Williamsburg
Live-stock Co., and has been in
their employ ever since. During
his stav in Kingstree he
gained many friends, who are
bereaved by his death. Our
sympathies are extended to the
afflict:1 f.i m 'y.
The remains will be interred

church.
RESOLUTION OF ENDORSEMENT
Adopted by Members of Kinastree
Bar Id Support of Solicitor Wilson.
At a meeting of members of the
Kingstree bar held last Tuesday the
following resolution was adopted in
support of the candidacy of Solicitor
Wilson for Judge of the Third
circuit:
Whereas, the Hon John S Wilson
is a candidate for the judgeship of
the Third judicial circuit recently
made vacant by the resignation of
Judge R O Purdy, and, whereas, in
our judgement Mr Wilson is eminently
qualified to discharge the duties
of the said office, he possessing in a
high degree all the qualifications
necessary to that exalted position; be
it resolved, therefore, that we have
heard with great pleasure of his
candidacy and most heartily endorse
the same.

A Pythian Symposium.
Kingstree lodge Knights of
Pythias entertained its members
last evening1 with a delightful
banquet. After the regular
meeting the Knights repaired to /
the new brick store of PS
Courtney, which afforded ample
room tor the entertainment. In
social commingling at the banquet
board the evening was
pleasantly passed and a most
excellent bill of fare discussed.
The menu cards were daintily
pretty, showing the emblem of .
the order.
