Gets Back Salary.

Mr M L Rogers, former postmaster
at Lane, will get the
pay of something over $600
which was withheld because it
was claimed that mail which
should have gone through the
Georgetown offiee was diverted
to Lane to keep the Georgetown
postmaster from getting
the pay.
The claim has been pending
for four years or more, and a
number of unsuccessful attempts
have been made to collect it.
Representative Ellerbe recently
took the matter up and secured
its payment.
DEATH AT COWARDS.
Mrs. Jans Gaese Passes Away?little
Herbert Gaise Accldeetly Shot.
Mrs Jane Gause, a widow lady
of the Cowards section died on
Sunday afternoon at 7 o'clock,
after a long spell of ill health in
her 67th year. She was the step
mother of W N and W B Gause
and of Mrs Hutchinson, all of
that section ot country, one
had been living-since her widowhood,
in the old homestead near
\V N Gause's home and was
buried in the old family burying
ground there.
After the funeral, while Hon.
W P Gause was about to take
the train for Columbia to attend
the legislature, of which he is a
member, he received notice of an
accident to one of his little boys
and hurriedly returned home.
The little boy, Herbert, with an
older brother, had been playing
with a gun and* was near the
house shooting. In some way
the gun was prematurely disnnU
