That eve: y person. firm or cor; oration
commencing business after the
first day of February. shall in
* like manner obtain a license therefor
before entering upon such trade, business
or profession.
That everv person, firm or corporation
required by this ordinance to obtain
a license to engage in any trade,
business or profession for which a
license is required, shall, at the time
for applying for such license, make a
statement and file the same with the
Clerk ar.d Treasure of the town, set-!
ting forth (1) hi?, rer or its name and
style, and in case of a firm, the names
of the several persons constituting
such firm; (2) the trade, business or
profession for which a license is required;
(3) the place where such tr; de.
business or profession is to be carried
on.
That the Clerk and Treasurer shall
thereupon issue the proper license as
provided for in this Ordinance, the
amount of the said license being first
paid on or before the day named in the I
.first section hereof.
Nothing herein contained shall in
any manner ancci any uuier injumments
of law elsewhere enacted, in re-1
gard to any trade, 1 u>iness or profess-'
i?n.
That, if any person, firm or corpora- i
tion shall carry on any trade, business I
orprofession tor which a license is required
by this Ordinance, without taking
out a license as is hereby required,
the said person, firm or corporation,
shall be liable for the payment of the 1
license required, and in addition there-1
to, for each offen>e, shall be subjcet j
to a penalty of 15 percent of the!
amount of such license, which license
and penalty shall be recovered as here- j
in after provided; and if any person,
firm or corporation shall refuse or
neglect to make out and deliver to the (
Clerk and Treasurer on or before the'
first day of February. l:<07, a statement
as above required, the Clerk and Treasurer
shall pp>ceed to ascertain, as near
as possible, the trade, business or profession
of such person, firm or cor- j
poration, the license required .having <
first collected the amount of the license j
and a penalty of 15 per cent of the j
amount of the license.
That if the said license and the pen- j
alty shall not be paid within 15 days)
from the day of tne Clerk's ascertain- >
ment, the Clerk and Treas shall issue '
his execution to the Town Marshal for
the collection of the same, and the
Town Marshal will proceed to collect
**- the said license and penalty by distress
and sale, or by levy and sale, in the
same manner as now provided by law
for the collection of other taxes, together
with 5 per cent on the whole
amount; provided, that in lieu of the
remedy nerein given, suit may be
brought in the name of the Town
Council of Kingstree in any court of
competent jurisdiction for the recovery
of tne said license and the penalty
thereon.
2nd. That all licenses granted under
s-o . this Ordinance shall continue in force
until December the 31st, 1907; that the
Clerk and Treasurer shall prepare a
proper form to be issued in each case,
ana that application for licenses of all
kir.da shall be made to the Clerk and
Treasurer.
3rd. .That a Foot Tax of $2.00 be'
assessed and collected from each male
inhabitant of the Town, subject under
the Road Law to street duty, in lieu of
doing work on the street.
^ 4th. That the following sums shall
be paid to the Clerk and Treas, who, on
receipt of the same, shall issue therefor
the proper license as provided therefor:?
