few friends. Mr Coke is Mr Alex
Cooke's youngest son, and Miss

Gause. The young couple will make
their future home near town and we
all wish them a pathway strewn with

MrO J Holt died Wednesday night
after suffering for several months
with paralysis. He came here from

and was not able to go out from his
home 011 account of his feeble condition.
Ilis remains was carried to
North Carolina Thursday morning
for interment.
Mr E \V Miller, who represents
the Charleston Drug Co., was seen
on our streets one day last week.
Mr and Mrs R L Purvis of Bordnian,
N. C\. are visiting at section
master J L F Parrot's.
The young ladies and gentlemen
of Scran ton are preparing to have a
Christmas tree at the Methodist
church on Christmas day. A
royal good time is expected.
Miss Oiive Lavender of New Zion
visited her sister, Mrs R Mac Cooper,
this week.
The remains ot Chas T Powell,
who died at Lena, La., some time
about the 1st of Alignst,were brought
here Friday morning for re-interment
Mi Poweil went to J<ouisi.?na a bom;
two years ago ami was in the turpentine
business when he died. He was
a >on of Mr Warren Powell of Allison,
Fionnce county, and had two
brothers in Louisiana and one in Alabama,
who accompanied the body
home. There was a large number
of Mr Powell's friends to meet the
remains at. the depot which were
placed in a hearse and carried to his
old home at Allison and laid to rest
sn Trinity church cemetery. Mr
Poweli was n young man about 21
veurs old and was highly esteemed
by a host of friends. He leaves, besides
his bereaved parents, severaj
b:others and sisters to mourn his
loss.
