According to previous 'unjnouncement a meeting of days began at the Baptist church last Sunday. . The pastor is beassisted by Rev J A Brunson of Klloree, Mr C K Timmons has secured the Fulmore residence on Acline avenue and will move his family here irom South R?cky Mount about January first next. Miss Eleida Burns, who is teaching near Mr J M Matthews, spent Saturday and Sunday in town. Last week we stated that a principal for our school had at lact Kapti cprnrpft Mr S K Rar_ ron, of Rock Hill. He wrote the trustees applying for the place and naming the salary he would accept. This letter was answered at once and by wire telling him his offer was accepted. Notwithstanding this, Mr Barron, for some reason, declined to come. So the school is still without a head. Those pupils who are above the sixth grade were sent away, and the two lady teachers are trying to get along v.s best they can with the remaining children. This j is a sad state of affairs. Several { boys and girls who ought to be jat school right here at home j have gone to high schools in this ond other States. Now those children who are so unfortunate as to belong to a grade above the sixth, are sent home, and two voting utiles are lettto struggle with a horde of kids, some good, some bad, and some indifferent. Dr L B Salters. whose coming was announced some weeks ago, is here ard is taking hold of the situation so as to put himself m position to enter fully upon his work. Lake City is growing?not because of encouragements hut in spite of discouragements within, not without. Every expansion is made against opposition. Then a little faster we rail them 13ecquerel rays, and the fastest we know yet we call Roentgen ravs. I have missed out more than I j have named, and there are many gaps yet to fill, but you will agree with mo that the entity whose vibrations cause electricity, heat, light and Koentgen rays, besides conveying the force of gravitation, must be a very Amarkable substance. And, more tlian that, it is supposed that all ponderable matter is really made out of the ether. By ponderable matter we mean matter which is subject to gravitation and therefore | has weight. The ether itself, which | conveys the gravitation, is conceived of as hoing without weight. It comes to this, then?that in the I ether modern science recognizes the I most profound of all its problems, [except that of consciousness.
