^ o AND LOAN W^ ASSOCIATION. W IMPORTANT FACTOR IN THE DEVELOPV V KENT OF A COMMUNITY. m Every good citizen is interested in tbe development of his country. It K- is essential that every interest be de^veloped to the highest in order that the best results may be attained. The manufactory that does not turn out all the work of which it is capable is not doing what it should do or what its promoters have a right ML to expect it to do. The clerk, the '^bookkeeper, the carpenter, the brick layer, or the printer who does not do .lis much work us he can during the hours of his employment is not doing justice to his employer or himself. The bunk, the stoie or the newspaper that is not doing all the business it cm do is not doing its duty to the community nor to its owners. The building and loan association that does not do all the business it is capable of doing is not giving to the community the service that it was intended it should give. Of the sixty-two share holders in the Cherokee Building and Loan Association to date, seven are clerks, three lawyers, six women, two printers, seven merchants, four mill men, two contractors, one editor, jiine bookkeepers, four doctors, one planter, eight officials, one bridge builder, two carpenters, one hotel man, one preacher, one manufacturer, two children. Of this number, oue is colored, one is a bank president, two aie mill presidents. One woman has built her a home through the association. Where are - ? i- - . 5 liru- , ine ocner cierKs in iowiu ?? u? uui( join the association? You will war.tj to buy a lot or build a house some day. Could not more ladies join the association? Yon have no idea how many nickels you can save during the week if you try. It will pay you 8 per cent, even if you don't care to build or buy a lot. Are only seven oi the merchants of the town interested in the future growth of Gaffne\? Tne building and loan association means work for carpenx ters and brick masons, and they all eat and wear clothes. There are more carpenters in town than two? What's wrong with the rest of them? The association will make more worthy causing more building. Do the preachers realize that home owners -*&re better citizens -have a greater regard for morality, law and order. The mill district alone can easily take 500 shares, yet only four of have ioined the association. And only one colored member! Is he the only one of his race who sees the beauty of owning his own "Home preparing for the future, becoming a citizen in the true sense? Duriug court week one can see nothing but lawyers, but when pay day comes at the building and loan office only three of them show up. Are there onlv two chilaren in town able to rake up twenty-five cents a week? If children would learn to save in a few years they would become landowners. Everyone in Gaffney who can! realize the importanqe.of the building and loan as a town builder should join the association and talk it up. Let's see what we can all do together, rich and poor, black and white, by getting together to bnild up Gaffnev. TV hen value is added to real estate it puts life into all other business in the community. We need in >re life in Gaffney aud every citizen should do his or her part toward promoting the interest of the town. Philadelphia, Pa., and Charlotte, N. ('., are two cities built by the building and loan association. It's si good in vestment for town and peo'"? -O T 1 pie.?uaniu-v imager. Death of a"urtle Girl. Indiantowx, July 10: Early last Sunday morning the Angel of Death entered the home of Mr and Mrs \V F McCants of Indiantown and took' from their loving care lit^le Wilma Pearl, the joy and pride - of the home. This little girl was only eighteen months old, and was sick only a few days. We extend to the bereaved ones our heart-felt sympathy and would point to them the sweet assurance "Suffer the lit tie children to come unto Me and 1 forbid them not, for of such is the W Kingdom of Heaven."
