B. W. BROWN SLAIN
BY EPPS SNOWBEN,
STORY OF THE KILLING-VERDICT 01

On Saturday night, June o, at

Hh was killed in his own store
is the result of a row with
Snowden over forty cents, the
price of eight bottles of sodawater.
It seems that some
Dther negroes agreed to pay for
:he soda-water if Snowden
would drink it all. He did so
md the parties failed to pay him
:he money. Then he d? manded
rom Brown the return of his
noney. Brown refused and

^fter a struggle the men were
separated and shortly after
Brown fell dead.An examination
showed several knife wounds,
me of which had penetrated the
leart.
Eye-witnesses of the encoun:er
say that they failed to see a

LAKE CITY PYTHIAN EXCURSION.
A Large Crowd, Oood Receipts and a
Day Pleasantly Spent.
Lake City, June 6:?Mr RE
Morris spent the latter part of
last week at Centenary, Marion
j county.
Mr Isaac Bardin of Charleston,
| is visiting in town.
i The Lake City Pythian Excursion
from Dillon to Charleston
last Wednesday was in
every respect a decided success.
It had the elements of a good
crowd, good weather, punctual
I schedule, good order and good
receipts. The crowd filled ten
cars. This wiil give a pretty
fair idea of of *he number of
people. The train left Dillon on
| time and with two car-loads.
J Lake City furnished about
! enough to fill three cars. All
0
other stopping points supplied
recreation seekers, especially
Latta, Florence, Scranton and
Cades. The day was fine and
was pleasantly spent, a large
part going to the Isle of Palms
and the rest remaining in the 1
city. The best of order was i
maintained. There was not a
single unpleasant incident to
mar the occasion. Every one
from whom we have he<ml an
expression declares that it was,
, all in all, the most pleasant excursion
in which he or she had
I
a part. The whole matter was
summed up by a delicate, refined
lady,who stated to us that
it was the most gentlemanly
and ladylike crowd of excursionists
she ever came in contact
with. No one can ask a
higher compliment than this.
The party left Charleston
promptly at 10 o'clock and all
Immc on vood time.
This writer has not learned the
exact amount of net profits, but
it was about $150 to $175. In
behalf of the lodge we want to
thank the committee in charge,
the committees at the different
stations and everybody who
helped as and everybody who
went on this pleasant trip.
