He was Drowned in Black River, About
a Month Ago.
Georgetown, March 8?Special:
The remains of W I) Catlii,, who
whs drowned in Black Rive>v about
one month ago, while on a Jwunting
trip, were found today a negro

negro boatman was found about
three weeks ago, and brought to
Georgetown late this afternoon . A
coroner's jurv was promptly empanelled
and a verdict of accidental
drowning rendered.
The relatives of the unfortunate
young man, who live in Danville,
Va., have been notified.
Larceny to Cheat Publisher.
A newspaper in Ohio recently
brought suit against fortv-tnree men
who would not pay their subscriptions,
and obtained judgment in
each case for the amount of each
elaim. Of these, 28 made affidavit
that they owed no more than th%
law allowed, iltus preventing attachment.
Then, under th^ decision
of the supreme court, they were
arrested for petit larceny and bound
over in the sum of 83000 each. All
but six gave bond, which six went to
jail. The new postal law makes it
larceny to take a paper and refuse to
pay for it.?Ex.
Death of Mrs. Susan E. Coward.
At five o'clock Friday afternoon,
March 3, 1905, Mrs Susan Emma
Coward, wife of Mr J W Coward,
passed away after a brief illness of
pneumonia. The funeral services
were held on Sunday morning at the
Williamsburg cemetery, being conducted
by Rev Thomas Leitch in the
presence of a number sympathizing
friends.
Mrs Coward was a daughter of
Mr aud Mrs John P McElveen of
i Cades, and would have been thirty ;
eight years old had she lived until
April. She had been married twenty
years and leaves six children, five
girls and one boy, besides her bereaved
husband and aged parents, to
mourn her loss.
To the aftlicied husband and
motherless children we tender our
sincere sympathy, and may they find
consolation in Him who lowth tho>e

to the cold, wet weather fanners
were unable to do but little work,
up to ten days ago. For the past
few days, however, they have been
