A J Stokes, D. D. The Exhibit
is a neatly printed, four page
sheet and is filled with interesting
reading pertaining to Florence
district. Under the caption
of Conference "changes" we
note the following:
Kev H L Singleton, a handsome
bachelor, went from Harpers
to Bucksville. Bucksville
has gai ned a good and true man,
who ha* done all the work of a
Methodist minister wisely and
well. We hope to hear good
things from him.
Rev H 4 Cautben, thccu tured
gentlenun, the facile writer, the
good preacher and pastor, went
from Kingstree to North
Augusta. Daring his three years
in Kingstree the church prospered
under bis administration.
It is with sadness we mention
the name of our beloved brother,
Rev J F Way. In the midst of
his labors in Rome circuit his
health failed and he was constrained;
to ask for superannuated
relation. The charges assigned
to him generally prospered.
Rev W H Harden went from
us to Walballa. This move was
^ made on account of health. He
loved his people as they loved
him, but he felt a change was
imperative. He served his
charge faithfully with a true
heart and willing mind. He was

and as it was bis custom be
brought up these collections in
full. Our best wishes go with
him.

Owing to circumstances beyond

getting out this week's issue.
We-regret exceedingly this delay,
which is necessarily annoying
to our patrons, but there is
do help for it and we ask the indulgence

On Wednesday, we learn, Mr.
! Eli Patrick, a thrifty and
j successful farmer near Fowler
postoffice, lost all his household
effects and other property in a
fire which burned the dwelling
he occupied (the Dr. James

to Mrs. McGirt of Darlington
county. ^

The Bank of Kingstree has
recently issued a very neat and
attractive little folder, setting
forth their last quarterly
statement for 1904. The
showing made indicates a
very unusual degree of prosperity
in Williamsburg county and
withal speaks volumes for the
progressive and successful management
of the bank. The capital
stock is $15,000 and there is
ihown a surplus of $5,000, with
undivided profits amounting to
?5,436,87 and $153,743,42 deposits.
Naturally the officials, and in
fact all its friends, are proud of
tee bank's showing; such a record
could be made only by men (
who deserve and inspire confi*
lence.

Unanimous Vote to Reduce Acreage
and Curtail the Use of Commercial
Fertilizers.
New Orleans, La.,January 24:
?By a unanimous vote at the
close of the first session today
the Southern Inter-State Cotton
Convention, by general agreement
the largest and mkstrepre
sentative that has gatfi^fced in
the South/declared that reduction
of acreage and commercial
fertilizers is the paramount question
to be considered at the Convention,
and it must be settled
before any other business is undertaken.
Eleven hundred and
thirty-five delegates, representing
the thirteen cotton growing
States and Territories, had
registered when the Convention
was called to order. Even that
number did not represent the
full strength of the Convention.
The following general propositions
were agreed on:
'First. We must tie-up and
take care of the surplus of this
crop and remove it from the
markets of the country until
next fall, and hold the balance
of the crop absolutely in our
possession until the price advances
to normal conditions.
"Second. We must reduce the
conon acreage auu use ui lulu*
mercial fertilizers under cotton
it least 25 per cent under that

"Third. We must arrange for
i general system of bonded warehouses
under local control of
the people throughout the
South.
Fourth. We must at once proceed
to organize the producers
Df the 8outh in every cotton
growing county on a business
basis to carry into operation a
permanent system of relief and
protection for the future."
"Reduction of acreage and
commercial fertilizers being of
paramount importance we recommend
it to be made the first
order of business and be settled
before other business is under
taken," was the conclusion ol
the committee's report, which
was unanimously adapted.
