Death of Mrs- Janet G- Brown.

G Brown, widow of the late R
"W Brown, died at the advanced
age of 74 years. She had been
in declining health for about
twelve months and the immediate
cause of her death was heart
failure. In her death we lose
one of our best friends.
Mrs Brown had been a mem\
ber of Prospect church for fifty
years or longer, and was a consistent
Christian, carrying sunshine
wherever she went. She
leaves three children, viz: Anson
A Brown, Mrs J Davis Car.
ter and Mrs John T Eaddy; also
two brothers, Lawrence W and
J Warren Graham, and two sis
ters, Mrs D Lawrence Brown
and Mrs Wilson Burrows, besides
a host of other relatives
ajid friends in this and adjoining
counties.
The funeral services were
conducted by Rev J BTreywick
of Lake City, and took place at
the family burying ground, on
Monday, at 12 m.

Citoe Near Being SeriousTuesday
afternoon about dark
Robert Kirk, the eleven year-old
son of R J Kirk, Esq., while
walking up Academy street towards
his home, met with a mishap
which came near resulting
seriously. Attempting to catch
a passing vehicle the little fellow
in some way was knocked
down and it is tnougnt mat a
roan riding on horse-back behind
ran over him. He was severely
cnt about the head and although
with some assistance managed
to walk home about a quarter of
a mile, soon after his arrival he
became unconscious and for a
while grave fears were entertained
as to his recovery. Drs
Gamble and Brockinton were
called in, however, and through
their ministering his condition
became less alarming and at this
time he is well on the way to re covery.
On account of the darkness and
_ some conflicting versions of the
affair as told by eye witnesses
it is difficult to get at the exact
nature of the accident.

As is indicated by a notice of
dissolution which appears in
another column, the cloth nig
and men's furnishing business
? heretofore existing under the
firm name of- Kinder & Steele
has passed into the hands cf the
latter, Mr J B Steele having
bought out L P Kinder's interest.
There has also been a ;
change of stand, the store having
been removed to the brick
building on the opposite side of
Acaaemy street, one aoor oeiow
tee Kingstree Hardware Co's '
establishment.
The new stand is a good one
and with the energy and esecu- 1
tive ability which the new proprietor
possesses, add?d to the <
good will and patronage that :
