; law so amended that the pay of
-all widows of Confederate soljdiers
and sailors may be made
| equal, adopted the followingresolutions:
That a committee of five members
of the ('amp be appointed
to memorialize the General As-!
semblv, through the Williams-!
burg delegation, in regard to the
j changes desired in the pension
law*.
The committee met on December
5, 1904, in pursuance of the i
above resolution and prepared;
. the following memorial to be:

i sembly b}* the county delegation,
i j to wit:
j Whereas, we believe thatj
great injustice has been done by;
the pension law to those widows
of Confederate soldiers and
sailors who have died since the
war, inasmuch as they receive

Therefore, we do most respectfully
petition the General
Assembly, (1) that at its next
session, to be held some time in
January, 1905, in its wisdom it

provision of the pension law so '
as to carry into effect the
changes suggested and requestI
ed in the above resolution; and,
u hereas, we witness with,
regret the growing decrepitude
ol those old soldiers and sailors
in class C. 2, many of whom are
, physically unable to perform i
any laborious work, we do also;
(respectfully petition the (lener- i
al Assembly (2) to amend the;

In order to attain the ends
sought for in this memorial it is
the request of the committee;

for the Encyclopedia

ing sent out by the commissioner
Watson, in giving the Y
history of manufactures in
South Carolina, says: "A cotton
factory was established inia
,374 at Murray's Ferry. Williamsburg,

burg a few years later." As c
this is the first mention and ear- j
liest date of a cotton factory in , c
this State, the statement is'rJ
equivalent to a positive delara- j e
tion that the Murray's Ferry 11
mill was the pioneer in that in-1 e
dustry, in which South Carolina jt
now leads the entire South and 1
is excelled by only one State in 1 f
