The lot measures 40 by 100 feet and the price paid is $000. A little figuring will show that this is at the rate of $6534.00 per acre. It will no donbt be a surprise to many to learn that Lake City dirt commands such a price. Dr Major Lrgette of Mariou visited here last week at Mr E W Yate's. Friday the town council voted $150 .00 to the trustees towards buy- i ing some new desks for our school. These desks have been sorely needed some time. The number of pupils is entirely beyond the present accommo? dations and the trustees have no [ - money that can be spared for furniture, the funds coming only from taxes, which is barely sufficient to pay the salaries of the teachers for a short term. In this connection we may mention the fact that the school seems to be in better shape and giv-1 ing moee general satisfaction than in j quite a whila, Mr C E Wheeler of Florence was in town Saturday ou business. Our streets are no longer in darkness, but the light from about forty gas jets dispels the gloom and ?o materially alters the appearance of our town at night that it is almost difficult to realize that the place which aparkles with brightness is the same as that in which a week ago the wretched inhabitants stumbled along in murky blackness. The lamps re of the kind that generate their own gas and of five huudred candle power each,except the oue at the in- i tereeotion of Main street and Acline avenue,which is two thousand candle power. The town is to be congratu lated and the council thanked for this marked improvement. The regular election for intendant : and wardens for the ensuing year ; will be held on the 20th of ihis * month. We have heard of no candidates at this writing. Mr H L Richey i3 now wi;h the L^ke City Hardware Co. A new dwelling is going up on j Churcltstreet, near Dansing. While working! under this gum the limb fell, strik-! ing .Mr Bakerou the head and shoul- | der. It was a terrible blow and would J have felled him to the gronud had j not his son caught him.
