Lake City, September 1:? blisses Alice and Emma Finney, the former of Atlanta, Ga., and f. the latter of Pickens, S, C., are visiting- their cousins, the Misses Rooke. MrsHHolleman has returned fromCharleston to this town. She came on last Thursday. Mrs Evelina Cole of < harles* ton, visited here last week. She will be remembered as the widow of Mr Madison Cole, late of Friendfield, Florence county. Mr D F Fowler of Mullins .was in town Saturday on his way home after spending several days in this section. Mr J YV Ragsdale, candidate fc r congress, was here Monday h oking after his interests in the r ce. The picnic Friday was well attended several hundred people being present. Addresses were delivered by Mr A C Stewart and Capt. W D Fitch. The dinner was in abundance and heartily enjoyed. The rain , vwhicli came up at the close of ; dianer brought the affair to an ! abrupt and moist end, many j having been drenched before shelter could be reached. Thej grounds are just without the edge of town and not near any i buildingsjtbat ofer protection to a large crowd. A movement is I being put on foot to build a : large pavilion. The place is almost an ideal spot for a picnic ; ar-d. with the addition or a pavilion will make a splendid place for outings and open air meetings. The writer in his recent circuit of the county paid considerable J attention to the crops along his route. Most of them are good ? far above the average?and many are tine. He has a held of thirty acres, which will average, ac- ' cording to some good judges, a bale to the acre. All of it is j good, but one half is several ' points better than the other. The entire tield was fertilized, planted and cultivated alike, but the land of the better half , was thoroughly broken up last' winter with a two-horse plow.; 4 The rest of the lield was treated ! in the usual way. The difference i is very noticeable. Six hundred Dounds of fertilizers were used A ! to the acre?two hundred each | I of "Wilcox & Gibbes acid, kainit i and cotton seed meal. It is! worth a ride of several miles to ! see this field. Should you <40, be i sute to notice the difference be-1 tween Ae cotton on the part that was broken up deep and 1 that on the part that was not so broken. It is a striking demonstration of the value of thoroughly dee}) preparation o f the soil! before planting. W. L. B. WHAT is LIFE? Soil may be the same and seed may seem the same ; but some plants are weak and j others strong. And that's the way with ; children. They are like young plants. Same food, same home, | same*care but some grow big and strong while others stav I small and weak. Scott's Emulsion offers an easy way out of the difficulty. Child weakness often means! starvation, not because of lack j! of food, but because the food ; does not feed. Scott's Emulsion really feeds and gives the child growing strength. Whatever the cause of weak- j ncss and failure to grew? j Scott's Emulsion seems to find it and set the matter light.
