There is a crying need for dwelling
houses in Kingstree, the lack of
which keeps away many families
>: who would like to come here to live
if they could rem comfortable homes.
Whenever a dwelling becomes vacant
there is a rush of applications for
renting it and several wouldbe citizens
are now vainly seeking houses
to live in. It would prove an excel
lent'investment for some of our capitalist*
to put their money 111 neat,
comfortable tenant dwellings and at

would contribute more materially to
the growth and prosperity of the

We have asserted heretofore and
we wish to re-iterate that The Record

Several reports have gone out recently
from this county alleging the
discovery of. an insect resembling
fhe Mexican boll weevil. Before
publishing such damaging reports it
would be well for correspondents to
be absolutely sure that the suspicious
insect is a boll weevil. Through the
courtesy of the department of ento
mology of Clemson college Ave have
received a specimen of the boll weevil
and its larva, along with a descriptive
pamphlet, all of which we shall
be pleased* to exhibit to any of our
readers who are sufficiently interested
to call at this office; or if auy one i

Now that cisterns have been built
to furnish a supply of water the
next thing in order is the purchase
of an engine and the formation of a
fire company. We happen to know
that in the near future the town
will be re-rated by the Southeastern
Tariff association and if some provision
be made for fighting fire before
the new rates are fixed., enough
will be saved in the wav of iusurance
premiums to pay for the equipment
several times over. If the town is
not able to bear this expense we believe
that every business man would
contribute something to supplement
this fund. The conditions are favorable
to getting the rates lowered if
prompt action be taken, but after
