THE NEWS AROUND CADES.
What is Being Said and Done in a
Thriving Community.
CADES, June 21:?lieans are now
selling at 75 ami 90 cents a basket
in Northern markets.
Since the recent cool weather complaint
is being made that lice have
over-in i the cottou fields in some,'
sections. It is to be hoped that this
insect will not be as harmful as
it was several years ago when it
ravaged the fields.
Mr A J Lee, one of the live business
men of Cades, is building au
f addition to his store to accommodate
his growing trade.
Mist Myrtle Sauls has returned
from C harleston, where she has beeu
attending Stokes' business college.
Mr W P McGill came up from ,
Charleston last week and spent a
few days here with/his kins-folk.
The railroad comply is having
an artesiau well sunk at their pump
here. Digging has been in progress
for a week, but uo flow has yet developed.
~ ^
The young folk of the community
enjoyed a moonlight picnic at the
hospitable home of Mr and Mrs J L
Nexeen a few nights ago.
Some of the hustling farmers
hereabout are already "layiug by"
their corn.
From what Can be learned from
the farmer* crop conditions are very
gloomy, especially cotton. Oats are
. about all harvested and some peas
^ have been planted broad-cast.
A small negro boy about six years
old ran away from his* mother last
Wednesday because she ?.tetnpt$d to
whip him. The prodigal is thikchild
i of Mary Fulton, who lives on Mr
E J Smith's place a few miles from
town. Jhe boy was overtaken at
Kingstree and brought back.
Mrs E L Smith, accompanied by
MlSf Follin Porter of Marion, visited
relatives in this vicinity last
week.
Miss Mag Epps has returned from
Bock Hill, where she has been attending
college.
Several cases oarne up last week
before the town council. They were
mostly for disorderly conduct.
'Miss Mattie Moore passed through
town Monday on her way home from
Georgetown where she has been visiting
friends and relatives.
Mr L E Ne-rmith, a popular young
salesman for Kesmith Bros., is taking
a week's vacation at Dock.
MrJE McFadden has the finest
field of cotton that the writer has
seen this seasou.
Mrs B B Steele of Summerville is
visiting the family of Mr W E Nesmith
of this place.
Mrs L J Nesmith of Dock is visitiug
relatives in town.
I understand that Mr C G Carsten
came out very successfully with his
strawberries this year. A good many
farmers around Cades expect to plaut
berries extensively next year as the
~ soil seems especially adapted to that
crop. .W M. S.

Obituary.
Bbyax-Mts R J Bryan (nee Brown)
daughter of A E Brown and wife of
W D Bryan, was born in Williamsburg
county, S. C., November 18ti4,
and departed this life in the full assurance
of a blessed immortality
June 12, 1904. She was married
April 12, 1882, to W D Bryan of
Taft, S. C. To this union were born
eleven children, four of whom survive.
Besides the four surviving
children, she leaves a husband, one
brother, two half brothers, and two
half sisters, who mourn the loss of a
precious loved one; but their cup of
sorrow is sweetened by the assurance
that she rests from all toil and pain,
and by the hope of meeting her
"over the river".
She joined the Presbyterian church
at old Union in 1883, aud remained
a consistent and faithful member of
the same until transferred from the
church militant to the church triumphant.
Sister Brvan,.was a good
woman. None could doubt the
sincerity of her religion,, the silent
consciousness?serene and beautiful
?of a holy life, which always
caused her countenance to beam and
radiate with the assured favifr of
God, a light which illuminated her
pathway through life, and cast its
mellow rays across the dark river
until she landed ou the beautiful

geuial, social, and possessed a rare
magnetism, drawing around her a
large circle of friends. Indeed everybody
seem to be her friend, for she
was everybody's friend. An affectionate
wife, a devoted mother, a sincere
friend and a good neighbor.
Candor, sincerity, and devotion were
unique features of her character.
To her, death had no sting, for she
had accepted Chiist as the end of
the law for salvation, and leaned
upon him without fear.
We laid her beside her seven little
children, in the cemetery at old
Union church to await the resurrection.
The funeral services were conducted
by the writer, assisted by Rev
J B WelHon of Salters, S. C.
The following acted as pall bearers:
S E McCollough, W F Rodgers,
N W Cook, D C Bryan, H P
Brown and J M Brown.
May the peace of God keep the
hearts and minds of the loved ones
left behind, and may His grace prove
abundantly sufficient for them.
L. L. IXABINET.
WORST OF ALL EXPERIENCES
Can anything oe worse than to
feel that every minute will be your
last? Such was the experience of
Mrs S II Newson, Decattur, Ala.
"For three years" she writes, "I endured
insufferable pain from indigestion,
stomach and bowel trouble
Death seemed inevitable when doctors
and all remedies failed. At
length I was induced to try Electric
Bitters and the result was miraculous.
I improved at once and now
I'm completely recovered.'' For
Liver, Kidney, Stomach and Bowel
troubles Electric Bitters is the only

THROWN FROM A WAGON.
Mr Geoige K Babcock was thrown
from his wagon and severely bruised.
He applied Chamberlain's
Pain Balm freely and says it is the
best liniment he ever used. Mr
Babcock is a well known citizen of
North Plain, Conn. There is nothing
equal to Pain Balm for sprains
and bruises. It will effect a cure
in one-third the time required by
any other treatment. For sale by
