TRIUMPHS OF MODERN SURGERY.
Wonderful things are done for
the human body by surgery. Organs
are taken out and scraped and
polished aud put back, or they may
L be removed entirely; bones are
" spliced; pipes take the place of diseased
sictions of veins; antiseptic
. dressings are applied to wounds,
' bruise: burns aud like injuries bei.
fore Inflammation sets in, which
? cayses them to heal without matur;
ation and in one-third the time re,
quired by the old treatment. Chamberlain's
Pain Balm acts on this
. same principle. It is au antiseptic
. and when applied to such injuries,
causes them to heal very quickly.
It also allays the pain and soreness.
Keep a bottle ?f Pain Balm in your
home and it Will save vou time
and money, not to mention the inconvenience
and suffering which
such injuries entail. For sale by

Picnic at Smith's Mills.
Smith's Mills, June 18:?One
of the pleasauteat and most enjoyable
occasions of the season was the picnic
at Smith's Mills on June the 9th.
Florence, MSrion, Georgetown and
Williamsburg were well represented.
Two very interesting and instruetixe
addresses were made by the Hon
J Norton of Marion and Senator J W
Ragsdale of Florence. The attend- j
ance numbered about three hundred,1
and dinner and refreshments were
served in great abundance.
Much credit is due to the efficient
committee for having the ground so'
conveniently arranged and the kind
and thoughtful attention they gave
to those present.
About 6 p. m. the young people,
after spending a long remembered
day on the banks of the old romantic
Pee Dee, assembled at the lovely
residence of Mr and Mrs H Van
Keuren, where the evening was pleasantly
spent by the young people participating
in games, and the hours
passed quickly away listening to the
beaatiful music rendered by MisSes,(
Eva Venters Grace and May Van'*

The Pee Dec Summer School.
The teachers attending the Pee
Pee Summer School will come to a
town that is verv desirous of having
them, and will therefore do all it
can for them. They will he well
cared for on the same campus?will
all eat in the same dining loom?
a fid can have many discussions of the
work in hand?of former experiences,
etc., and therefore receive much
greater benefit than can be had by
atteuding a county summer school of
two or three instructors, and twenty
teacher-students. There is inspiration
and eucouragement in numbers.
The Pee Dee will have these. The
expenses will he lower than the
nsual expenses of a county summer
school. Tue management is now
making efforts to provide lectures,
etc., sufficient to entertain and instruct
those in attendance. The Pee
Summer Summer School will be a
success, aud will give added reputation
to those why attend its sess'on.
The names of the faculty is sufficient
to guarantee this. You are coining?
ami will help in disseminating information
concerning it.
