Mr Frank M Sheridan of Qreenwood

Dr Marion Allen,'who was among j

College this year, stopped over a few
days to visit friends in town on the ^
way to bis home in Florence.
The first ripe strawberry of the
season was handed to us Saturday by '
Capt J J Steele. This berry is of 1
the "Lady Thompson" variety and i
is full grown and. fully ripe. It was i
plucked from his patch ou the 26th. ;

little hurt from the frost.

Miss Grace Whaley of Orangeburg ^
who ia visiting in the city, had a narrow
escape from serious injury yesterday.
While out driving the 6fth I
wheel of the vehicle gave way and
Miss Whaley fell with considerable
force. A young man who endeavored i

was dragged some distance. Miss
Whaley'a friends were alarmed at j
first, but she is improving and her
hurts are not considered serious.??

Boyd, is Jersy City, N. J. On this
visit Mr Gourdin was accompanied

who will remain for some time at the
North with her brother's family.
Mr J Eddie Godwin from near
Lake City, vu in town Monday. Mr
Godwin it one of the progressive
truckers who raise lettuce under
canvas, and he showed us some account
6ales where a barrel of this
crisp and toothsome vegetable sold
forasmuch as $7.00. As Judge
Green, of Lake City, says, "you can
swap a barrel of lettuce for a barrel
:>f flour at present prices and have
something lefc over."
While at Cades recently Mr C G
Darslen, one of the enterprising
citizens of that "burg," showed us
omeof the finest strawberry plants
we have ever beheld. Mr Oarstcn is
making the experiment of cultivating
terries under canvas and from the
sppearance of the quarter-acre patch
we saw the experiment will uaquetliooably
prove a success. The berriSf
will be ready to pick by April 10.

Mrs Johnson and two children, Ethel
May aod David Louis, and Miss Lee
Kellehan, left Sunday for El Paso,
Texas, where they expect to remain
for a while at least. For some
months Mrs Johnson has been a
semi-invalid ^suffering from pulmonary
trouble, and Dr Johnson has
taken hei to that part of Texas in
the hope that the climate there may
be conducive to her restoration to
health. The many friends of the
family, reluctantly bidding them
tarewell, sincerely hope that Mrs

South Carolina and to Williamsburg

Wants a New County.

I wish to draw the attention
sf the citizens of Williamsburg'
md Georgetown counties to
what I deem to be a very important
subject. It is concerning
a new county. Kingstree is
within 10 miles of the Clarendon
line and the town of Georgetown
is in the extreme eastern
portion of Georgetown county,
the two county seats being
about 45 miles apart. Now, my
proposition is to cut off ten
miles from the western part of
Seorgetown and ten miles from
the eastern portion of Williamsburg
and form therefrom a new
:ounty with the court house on
the half-way ground between
the two towns, which would be
about the C Belin place. In
:ase we fail to get a railroad we
Rould have water transportation.
It is a hardship for some
people to have to travel from
Pee Dee and Santee 35 miles to
the county seat, while those on
tne west side 01 lungstree nave
to go only 8 or 10 miles. I wish
some one interested in this matter
who can write better than I
would agitate the subject and
present it in its proper light, especially
the "Sage of Possum
