face is always a welcome one.
Mr H B Hardy, principal of the
Hannah school, spent awhile here
on his return from a trip to Florence,
His school is well attended and full
of rich promise.

horse and buggy by the roadside.!
The horse was dead and was untied.;
It sectns that the horse v\ liile cross-1

edge and missed its footing, falling 1
over into the water, atid was killed.
The horse and buggy belonged to
James Gordon, colored.
Mr and Mrs Robt McKnight of
Belser's X Roads spent Saturday
and Sunday in this community with
the former's brother, Mr P C McKnight.
Mr Olie McClary and Mis$ Alma
Nexsen of Cades spent Sunday with
relatives in this viciuity.
Messrs Frank and Alonza Hanna
were visiting near Cades Sunday
afternoon.
Mr Johnnie Williamson from near
Cades was here a short while Sunday.
Miss Rhina Burrows is spending
some time with relatives neai Bensou.
Mr Willie Lifrage of Salters
was here a short while Sunday.
I am glad to report that Miss
Bessie McCutchen is out again after
a few days' sickness.
The house of Robt McElveen,
colored, was almost destroyed on
Sunday night by lire, but luckily j
the tire was soon discovered and put I
out befort much damage resulted.
Mrs D B Anderson, the efficient
teacher of Beulah school, visited
friends near Kiugstree Sunday.

opened the Cedar Grove public j
school on Monday, the 22 inst., a
good attendance of pupils being present.
Rev S Law ton Watson, pastor of
Cedar Grove Baptist church, has
tendered his resignation as pastor,
which has been accepted by the
church. The doors of the church are
closed for the present; but. efforts
will be made to secure a pastor as
soon as possible.
Mr II E Tisdale's little daughter
in the dusk of evening accidentally
stumbled over a large tub of hot
water and fell forward; both hands
and arms up to the elbow were badly
scalded. She caught on her bauds,
which prevented a more serious accident.
She is better and will soon j
i
be well.
Very little farm w ork has been
done in this section as yet; everything
is backward on account of
so much winter. Teach trees are
just beginning to bud, the laud
being cold and wet Everything
points to a late spring.
A small crop of tobacco and a reduced
acreage in cotton will be
planted in this section this year.
