A BIRTHDAY FARTY.
First of a Series of Entertainments to
be Given at lake City.
Lakk City, February 23:?Lake
^City is to have a new Methodist parsonage.
The ladies have taken the
matter iri hand and in the bright
lexicon < f fair womanhood the word
failure has no place.
On the evening of Friday, the 19th
inst., the first of a series of entertainments
to raise the "w herewithal"
to the end of accomplishing their

of Mrs F C Kodgers under the auspices
of the "Parsonage Aid Society."
This was a ''birth day
pa'ty" and the following is the form
invitation that was sent out:
"For every year of joy ami pleasure
Give u* a j enny?wc want S'?od
measure!
II your a^e you d ire nor tell.
A dollar will suit us just as well."
Notwithstanding the inclement
weather the ladies were encouraged
by a good attendance in response to
their invitation and a nice little
sum was relized to be applied to the
parsonage fund.
The crowd was deligh fully entertained
with recitations and music,
both instrumental and vocal. The
> recitation given by Mrs Will Severance
deserves special mention in
point of excellence, and another exceptionally
ple;ising feature of the
evening's tniertainmeut was a beautiful
duet rendered by Messis Ed
Rodger6 and Henry Hickson 011 the
mandolin and the guitar .
After several hours pleasurably
spent the guests were invited to the
dining room to partake of dainty refreshments
served by the ladies.
Here was a profusion of delicious
and appet'zing viands spread in
tempting array uron the beautifully
decorated tables. The dining room
audits appointments gave evidence
of the most refined taste and was
truly a scene of unusual beauty and
elegance.
All who attended departed feeling
glad that this was only the beginning
of a number of similar pleasant entertainments
to be given in the near
fnture by this society.

Miss Ella Mae Coney, whose school
closed here some time ago, left last I
week for her home at St. George's.

Mr and Mrs McElveen of Indian
town attended preaching here Sunday
afternoon. j
Little Miss Ida Gamble entertained
a few of her young friends
last Tuesday evening with a birthday
party. The little folks report a
very pleasant time.
Mr Dan Tisdale, one of Central's
bright young men, spent Sunday iu
our community.
