The State House commission suggests that if they had had $3,000,000 available to complete the State Capitol the work would have been more tastily executed. Very likely. There were over one thousand bills introduced at the recent session of the General Assembly. Out of that Bumber only two hundred and twenty-six ran the gauntlet of both houses and became law. It is very evident that there is no love lost between the "honorable gentlemen" of the State House commission and the "honorable gentlemen" on the committee of investigation of the State House Commission. I : The State House commission artlessly suggests that "if there has been cheap and shoddy work put upon the building, such work can easily be removedfat.any time without marring in any way the substantial portions f the building." The State House commission explains away the defects in the work of completing the State Capitol in a very plausible manner, but the fact ? Chief Justice Pope Steps in Front oi Board of Directors. .It was thought that the action of ihe State Board of Dispensary directors, at their last regular meeting, in ordering out stocks of goods fur the Lake City and Scranton dispensaries following the ordtr of Judge Paid v. discontinuing the injunction against their Leiug opened, marked the end of the court troubles of these dispensaries, which have been held up by legal objections of various and sundry sorts for several years. But it seems that the legal skirmishes are not over yet, though they do appear to he Hearing the end. Chief Justice Pope on application of Mr W L Bas3 has stepped in front of the hoard of directors with an or der staying proceedings under Jndge Pnrdy's order of tlie loth of January, dissolving the injunction theu barring the board. The new order requires the defendants to show cause on the 27th why the stay order of the chief justice should not continue, pending the decision by the snpreme court of the appeal which the plaintiffs made from the order of Judge Purdy. The county board, it is said, ordered the opening of the dispensaries in the face of a majority petition against their establishment, but Judge Purdy in discontinuing the injunction decided with the county board that the petition could Dot be considered, because it came in aftei the time required by law.
