CHANGE6- IN PROSPECT FOR THI NEW YEAR. Passing Events of Living Interea - la - i>au?ni on me Fly. Lake City, December 15:?Mr! J M Sturgeon spent some days le cectly iu Florence with her sister Mrs S W G Shipp. Rev J E Rushton is in Greenvilh attending Conference. At church conference on the firsl Sunday the Baptists unanimously recalled Rev T J Rook, the preseni pastor, and this time the call does not limit the time to one year, hut continues in force until terminated by vither party on notice of three months. Besides this, the salary was increased. Thus have the Baptist; indicated their legard for and confidence in Rev Rooke. This church never before extended such a llattering call to any one. In his ({uiet. unassuming way this man is a power for good. Mr J C Josey of Dock passed through Lake City recently on his w.iy home from a visit of two weeks iu Darlington, Lee and Kershaw counties. He saw many old friends and relatives, wandered amid scenes of hi i boyhood days and stood once again under the roof where his eyes first opened upon earth. The hole in the back ot the barn cut by Yankee soldiers to get out the corn brought back memories of long ago. Mr Josey enjoyed the trip exceedingly and says it made him feel like i new man?renewed his youth. Mr 3 VV Gowdy is having a store house built on his lot next to Dr Courtney's drug store. He expects it to be completed by January th? Srst when the business of Messrs J F Rickenbaker & Co will be moved there. Mr J Cleve McElveen has moved in town into the residence which he tiought from iMr J L Stuckey. We understand that Mr McElveen will ipen up a stock of goods in the house now occupied by Mr J H Brilles. January will witness several business changes in our town. Messrs Johnson & Hanna will then open in the Daniel store; Mr H L Carter irill leave here, unless he can secure i house, which hardly seems possible; Messrs Rickenbaker & Co, will move uto new quarters; Mr E A Cook will embark upon the choppy sea of trade in the house now occupied by Mr J H V Gaskins; Mr Gaskins will ijore his stock to the Webster place; ind Dr Johnson may go to the West. Besides these changes others are ru noreu. The regular election for municipal jfficers will be held on the 21st instant, notice of which has been given by the conncil. It behooves every ntizen to De lnreresteu m tms matter. It is really the duty of every *ood man?every man who respects aw and order and wishes to further ;he prosperity of the town, to have ;his thing at heart. We a*e well iware that those who are competent ind fitted to administer theaffuirs of he town avoid the offices. One vho would discharge the n Hies of ntendant or warden does l want he position. There is ueitht '?aslre nor profit to he gained, but a perfect harvest of Iwtikbiting, rnisnderstauding and abuse is to he reaped. "We realize *Md appreciate :his fully. We ha? * sat in the ichool of experienc \ But some nust make the 6acn ip. MrHL Covington of Pensacola Fla..was married on the 9th instant to Miss Augusta Denmark, of Qnitraan, 3a. Mr Covington has many friends ind relatives in this section.
