Former Lieutenant Governor James H Tillman, taking umbrage at a sermon preached by a Beaufort minis ter, in which he alluded to tbe Tillman trial and the verdict of the Lexington jury, wrote the preacher a letter referring him to certain passages in the Bible, which he (Tillman) deemed apposite to the subject. It is on record that even the devil < can quote bcripture effectively to 1 carry his point. . i Thirty-one men, mostly employees of the road, were killed in a head < end collision last> week on the "Big | Four" railroad up in Illinois. This frightful loss of life, it is said, was caused by a conductor's disobedience of orders. Will you take as your text toi the next Sabbath the 7th chapter 2nd and 3rd verses of the same gospel? ' You are much deceived if you, I f?o others of your thinking, lee illat you represent one quarter o the Christian ministry of this State for I have letter* to prove the eon trary.
