Lake City, October 20:?This post office has been made a money order office. When the office was re-established this department was omitted and the government has """ u. soon fir tn iwitu'ii i t until with-! "t'V' "VA." ..V .V iu the last few days. A new mail route has been established from this place to Henderson's X lioads thence to Mr 11 E Snath's and back by the way of Captain W W Fitch's and Moore's yS, Boads. Mr E M Kodgers has the contract for carrying the mail over this route and the system is now in regular operation. A mail route from here to Venters will be opened next July and advertisements are out asking for bids for the contract. The contract calls. for a doable daily service. Tins will give the people along the route excellent seivice. Mr A E Cook has moved into his new house on Valley street. Mr OotJk is a good citizen and we hope he will find his new home a pleasant one. Dr Chapman, of Chapmaiis, was in town Friday. Mr J D Caldwell has bought Mr Stauley's lot on Charles Street and will, we understand, build a residence, at an early day. We are now without ail intendant. Mr Gaskins resigned some days ago and his resignation went into effect on the l%th. Thecouucil has taken no action towards tilling the vacancy. It may be decided that, in view of the fact thai the regular election w ill be held on Dec. 20, it is best to elect one of the wardens intendant pro tempuri*, uuu uui oiua a spixiai citation, but let the protem act until the general election. Mr J 11 V Gaskins has bought the Webster place some two miles above here anil will move there soon. We are very sorry to see MrJGaskins and his family leave here. We are real ly sorely in need of such people and we regret their departure. Mr dusk ins made an excellent magistrate and a splendid intendant. He was fearles ,: clear headed and straight. What evprhe believed right, that he did without fear or favor. He may have seemed extremely hard at times but such su impression was erroneous. He did his duty as he saw it. * Mrs W L Bass and children are visiting in Florence this week. Mr Mott McClam came down from Florence Sunday and spent the day in towu. He is clerking for Mr H S Rose. Mr Cash, of the Old North State, spent several days recently with his brother, Mr A L Cash. He returned home Thursday. A State constable nas ueen ma King things lively in certain sections near here. Oh*Friday he captured fifty gallons of wine from Mr Jack Mc. Knight, who lives near Bass' Bridge The same day he seized from Mr Daniel Cameron, whose place is about two iniles from here, a barrel of winer This he poured out but shipped the McKnight wine to Col- j umbia. Monday morning he raided Mr A J Lee's place and got a keg,! about twenty gallons of w ine. So| some will go thirsty to the tune of | about a hundred gallons of wine and stuff. No warrants have been issued yet. The county delegation have1 recommended M r W W Grayson to be Magistrate at Kingstree. MANY MOTHERS OF A LIKE OPINION. Mrs Pilmer, of Cordova, Iowa, says: '"One of my children was subject to croup of a serious type, and the giving of Chamberlain's Cough Remedy promptly, always brought relief. Many mothers in this neighl>orhood think the same as I do about this remedv and want no other kind for tbeir children."
