ATTACK I IN C0I1I SWEEPING ' DENUNCIATION OF TFUSTED OFFICIALS Sensational Charges of General Import? 'More Anon" Promises More to Follow. Editor County Record:? The immortal Tilden, when making his onslaught ou "Boss" Tweed and his cohorts, by his warm criticisms and pierciug facts and energy revealed a coudition that paralyzed the universal public mind by his 1 1 1 / I ?!11 ? 1 audacious ana uure-iaceu viuuiiiy. But he received no sympathy from the beneficiaries of their ill gotten gains and influence. They heafd the truth as it was presented, with clam-like silence, and when the proof was so overwhelming and there was no loop to slip, he exclaimed: "Weill what are you going to do about it?" And just so in some other communities, Kiugstree, for instance, where incompetency and reckless extravagance (saying nothing about what might be termed dishonesty) reign and have had, up to recently, full and unmolested sway. You will find occasionally a eeto|?*Me Toos," who condone any and every" crime and injustice and then try to throw the mantle of innocence over the shoulders of the guilty, to their own discomfort and loss of confi (lence and respect of their honest and conscientious fellow-citizens. Now, we have before us facts (some recently published, others unpublished, but will be) which no man "dare deny?a sad example for the oncoming generation to behold. That no matter what a man or set of men do, or fail to do, is honeyed over, and their nnrighteou^ acts and records are whitened, so ?ar as their influence and perversion of truth will permit. Can we as good citizens stand with our eyes closed, ears deaf and mouth dumb, blatant apologists, hoping therefore to cover all defects and short comings, and paint a picture, pleasant and admiring to behold? Honeys, you do not deceive any one; the camera of tindincr out has been already thrown O 1 ? full in your fare and your negative is forever impressed, soon to have a number of copies taken. Deep down in the heart of man there is a feeling of disgust and contempt, deep, I say, and silent, against those high in State, who would brush aside truth and give the picture a pleasing coloring for a temporary position or gain. Why will devils defy the Gods of truth? Was not Judas guilty of the same trick? This, Mr Editor, is the attitude assumed by the little gods of this town; but they cannot cover up these tracks by foxy short cuts and sharp practice The sleuth hounds are on trail and the scent is not an uncertain one. I only throw out these facts as a pre hide to the exciting chase (for it will be exciting) and to what I expect to say in the near future. We shall tell the truth as it is written. It shall not be said that there is only one man in the down trodden town of Kingstree who loves truth for 1 for truth's sake, nor shall it be on the escutcheon of this quaint old ; town that there was found only one man to tight her battle for freedom, for justice and redemption. The augean stables will and must be 1 cleansed, and our beloved town ' must emerge from this shameful, ; qvershadowing influence. The reign ; of boodle and spoils as joint masters of municipal government and election has reached the period of decline, even though the aspirants thereof will always be ready to grasp every little opportunity for illicit ' gain.
