THE OIL MILL CO Soon to Commence Building? A Land and Improvement Enterprise. Without any flourish of trumpets the executive committee of the Williamsburg Oil Mill is moving forward and steadily and suiely pushing its plans to completion. The location that was first fixed upon having been deemed unsuitable, the committee chose another site for the building. The plant of the oil mill will be erected on the west side of the railioad, just opposite the depot. From the standpoint i of convenience it>would be difficult ' to find a more desirable location. We understand that all the machinery has been ordered and the contract for the building will soon b* i let out. Just in this connection we are informed that a land and improve[ ment company has been formed and it has purchased about 50 acres adjacent to the oil mill property, which will be cut up into bnlldijitf lots and sold to homei seekers at a moderate price. Everyone in town realizes how difficult it is to secure lots for building purposes, which state of things has long retarded the growth of the town. The effort on the part of our enterprising business men looking to the removal of this condition is most commendable and will doubtless result in the material growth and development of the town. ???? RAVAGES OF CONSUMPTION. Colored People Said to be Fast Dying Out in This County. The negro seems to be peculiarly subject to the ravages of consumption. The governor yesterday received from Mr J Davis Carter of Leo, Williamsburg county, a letter telling of the alarming condition among the negroes in that county. The letter has been referred to the State board of health through the secretary, Dr James Evans of Florence. In his communication, Mr Carter, who was formerly a member ? ^ 1.-.1 4-? ?am/1 fn llio nrnvfii* UI LUC IL'glSlillUlC, M1U IV l/UV JV/1Wnor: "I wish to call your attention to the fact that there is a section oi this county where the colored people are fust dying out from what seems to be consumption. "In a radius of five miles I think at least a dozen or more have died in the last twelve months, and many more have contracted the disease, All are young, say from 20 to 30 years old, they being poor and not able to have themselves treated.
