The Oil Mill. .
The Kingstree oil mill has passed
\ . the "talked of" period of uncertainty
and mar be now regarded as
In assured fact. At the meeting of
f stock-holders last Saturday a committee
was appointed to take steps
looking to the erection of the
plant as earl? as practicable.
Already enough money has been
pledged to put in a larger plant than
' - was originally contemplated, and by
going oat of the comity enough capi
V . is available to construct a
mill of fortj tons capacity.
Bat it is ' not the desire of
the promoters to seek outl.
side ^capital. They wish to make
* this a "home enterprise" and would
prefer to place every dollar of the
stock in Williamsburg county.
When the stock begins to pay hand'
. some dividends, as there is every
moon to believe it will, every dollar
of profit should remain at home, and
to this end everybody who has money
to spare, be it much or little, is invited
to get in on the ground floor.
When the Bank of Kingstree was
organised the same spirit was manihy
the the founders, but the people
- - - - - i -1. iL.
lacked taitn to taKe biock ai me
start. Now that the stock com'
mauds a premium of twenty-five per
cent every share of it could be disposed
of right here in Kingstrce, if it
could be bought; but those who own
the stock are as reluctant to part
# |
with it as the outsiders are eager to
'X , secure it
| ? i
It will be noted that the same
men that have made the bank such
a iplendid success are behind the
oil mill. This fact augnrs well for
its success and unless we are badly
mistaken it will prove a safe and
profitable investment. Onr people
cannot afford to let pass this opportunity
of advancing their own
interests and at the same time placing.
themselves on record as supporting
an enterprise that will conduct
to the material advancement of

A Compliment to Carmack,
A story is going the rounds that
is eminently characteristic of the
present occupant of the White
House, who in an uncouth way
paid a handsome compliment to
8enator Carmack, of Tennessee, one
of the ablest and most aggressive
Democratic members of the Senate.
RgVr
It is said that a few days before
Congress adjourned the Tennessee
delegation, composed almost entirely
^ v, of Democrats, called on the rough
rider to ask for a place on the Isthmian
Canal Commission for W S

This exhibition of temper on the

decidedly complimentary to Senator
C'urmack, who appear? to hare incurred
the w rath of the rough lider

when the occasion warrants it. It is
not on record that Roosevelt has ever
had the pleasure of refusing him a
request and he was not present last
week when his delegation called on
the president.
