Supervisor J J Graham, who hav

the duties of his office.
Mrs Nina MctVhite of Dade City,
Fla., was the guest of Mr Myers'
family at the Central Hotel several
days last week. She left Sunday
night, accompanied by Mrs Myers,
to visit other relatives at Alcolu,
B.C.
Mr M F Heller has over 100
horses and mules in hi? stables and
they are an exceptionally choice
lot of stock. Good judges of horseflesh
say that there is scarcely a
'sorry" animal in the lot. Note his
new ad.
Mr W H McKnight was in to see
uk Monday f?om Scranton. Mr McKnight
told us that this was his
first visit to Kingstree for twelve
years. Since that time, he says,
the town had grown almost beyond
recognition.
Mr J P Shaw seems to be the
champion of the county when it
comes to killing wild turkeys. We
are informed that recently he killed
six nt one shot in Black river
swamp. The deponent sayeth not
how many times he shot.
^Xre were the recipient of a welcome
visit this week from our
esteemed young friend, R .1 Nesmith.
Mr Nesroith's po*tofflce
now is Dock, where he has elected
to pursue the free and indej>endent
vocation of an agriculturist.
The last distribution of dispensary
profits to the schools of tfyeState for
the year 1902 is now being made by
the comptroller general. The present
apportionment amounts to
581 .IS, of which we note that Williamsburg's
share is 11,415 40.
Hon 8 Wayne Gamble of Gourdins
was in town Tuesday night.
Doctor Gamble has eiven up the
active practice of medicine aad
will conduct a mercantile business
this year in connection with his
farm at Gourdins. We wish our
friend abundant success,
Mr B H Guess, a prosperous
farmer near Salters, was in to see us
recently. He tells u? that he took
advantage of the rise in price and
sold 13 tons of his cotton seed, investing
a part of the proceeds in
three wild horses, which he bought
at auction. Now he says he wishes
he had his money back.
The earthquake- shock reported
to have occurred along the Atlantic
Coast last Friday evening at 8:11
o'clock is said to have been distinctly
perceptible in *this county. We
are informed by several persons
that they felt the familiar tremor ot
the earth and heard tho preliminary
rumbling sound.
Almost all of our country friends
are1 complaining of the miserable
condition of the public highways
allover'the county. We shall discuss
this subject editorially in the
near future and shall be pleased to
receive any" suggestions, either
privately or for publication, from
anyone who thinks the present
road law could be amended to
advantage.
Senator B R Tillman has recently
introdnced a bill in the United
States Senate providing for an
increase of pension to Mr W G
Cantiey of this county. Judge
Cnntley is one of the oldest citizens
of the county, and, if our memory
serves correctly, is a veteran of
three wars, viz., the Seminole war,
the Mexican war and the war of
Secession. With such a record as
this ho should certainly be taken
care of by the government in his
declining years.
Misses Nellie Bristow and Mary
McCall, of Florence, are visiting the
Misses Kelley in Academy Street.
Miss Bristow is pleasantly remembered
as a farmer member of the Graded
school faculty, and Miss McCall
is a sister of Mr. A. M. McCall, who
was a cottou buyer here fcr two seasons.

(Jit.v Hardware' company will
probably build on the present
site of Mcsari J L Stuckev & l'o>
stables, which will be removed to
another part of the town. The
building will be a large double
building with double front, one
for the Hardware (Jo's business
and the other for the bank. In
addition to these there will be in
the building some offices, entrance
to which will be gained by a third
entrance. Plans are being laid
to have the building ready lor
occupancy by the summer.

with an attack of rheumatism.

after the shooting and have not
been captured. Some think they

and Rollins have tendered their
resignations and an election was
held Monday to fill the vacancies.
