connection with his father's estate,
of which he is executor.
Mr WH Wells and Hon J W
Ragsdale, of the Florence bar spent
Tuesday in town on business in
magistrate court. A preliminary
examination in the case of the State
' IB Mack Sauls, rescuing contraband
liquor from an officer, was held.
The prosecution was represented by
Mr Wells and the defense by Mrj
RagBdale. The magistrate did not
consider the evidence sufficient to
i warrant the sending of the case to,
the General Sessions, and hence dis
mi sued the action.
The potatoes in Mr W II Gaskin's
patch were, this year, neitner smuii
potatoes nor few in the hill, He
made several hundred bushels to the
acne?exactly -how many he dot's
not know, but he is quite certain
that the yield was almost phenomenal.
Of the largest he weighed one
and it pulled down the beam at live
pounds. He says that in the patch
there were two hundred and fifty as

wood-working and a black smith

the station house. There will be

Mr C R Weaver, fired up his
bakery last Friday night. The oven
< worked like a chaim from the very
beginning. The bread turned out
r was really excellent and the entire
output was sold before sundown Satf '
urday. Round, pointed and biscuit
loaved were made. The bread is
: thoroughly cooked, white, crisp and
I melting. There was a real demand
for a bakery here and we hope this
t one will be a success.
Mr David Coker's store, which is
on his plantatation in the Hebron
section, was broken into a few nights
ago and his cash box stolen. In it
was about $100 in cash and some

He has some suspicion that point
to fc certain man as the robber.
Mr C R Hastings, of Spartanburg,
orgAchzed a council of the National
Union here on Wednesday nighr.
The council has about twenty two
members already. It is an insurance
ociety.
The congregations of the Hebron
and St Johns Methodist churches
' are getting ready to build houses of
worship. The new building at Hebron
will be of a modern design and
will cost about $2000. It will be
put up between the old house and I

feet from the old structure. Mr J

than two acres for the St Johns
