A V VUl ?WV* WW | ' 1 ' j We have patiently waited upon a j number of our subscribers during the dull season, and it has been | done cheerfully. Now that cotton is coining in we hope that, they will kindly remember us. Already some have called and moved up their figurea to the right point. Let there be a general movement in this di-' rection, and it will be greatly appre- J ciated. We/eel that we shall have ? cheerful and ready response to this J reqnegt As to the School Building. y The fact'.that a new building is needed for our graded school is a selfevident proposition. Leaving out the questiou of municipal pride the K/ittnr cr?liAnl ]j. UtXU Ul uvuvi ovitw. ?WV... ties is one that appeals strongly to every citizen who is broad-minded enough to desire to give aid and encouragement to the great cause of . education. It is difficult to believe that any one with a proper sense of obligation to bib fellow?men, and especially to the rising generation, would be so short-sighted as to oppose something that is to standWor all the time to affect the destinies of his children's children in an everwidening circle of influence. With a view to the early realization of the hopes of those interested h a in this matter?and we take it that this inclu 'es every man and woman in the town?the time is ripe to consider means whereby a new building can be erected and equipped in a manner to meet the conditions of modern educational requirements. There iieem to be two plans under consideration, either of which appears to be feasible enough, and the SCOTT'S EMULSION Scott's Emulsion is the means of life and of the en?joyment of life of thousands of anen, women and children. To the men Scott's Emul. -sion gives the flesh and -strength so necessary for the (Cure of consumption the repairing of body losses!rom .-any wasting disease. For women Scott's Emul .sion does this and more. It is a most sustaining food and tonic for the special trials that women 'have to bear. To children Scott's Emulsion gives food and strength for growth of flesh and bone and blood. For pale girls, for thi'n.and sickly boys Scott's jEmulisios is a great help. 9er>4 far free sample. SCOTT A BOWNE, Chemists. 409-446 Pearl Street, New York. 50c. an# $ LOO; *11 druggists. .. point at issue is to decide between the two. With a similar end in view many towns of the State have issued bonds to the amount required and placed them at a low rate of interest. This miffht be done in cur case and a handsome! < and commodious school building constructed at a very moderate cost to the individual tax-payer. There has been another plan suggested, however, which to our mind is the more feasible of the two. The present town council, we understand, has agreed to give town's whole share of the dispensary profits to the bettering of our school, and we are informed that there is at the present time a fund of about $1,000 to the credit of the school. With this for a nucleus a sufficient amount could be borrowed to complete the building, by giving a mortgage of the completed building as security to the lender. Then, as the dispensary profits come in, the revenue thus derived could^ be applied directly to the payment of this mortgage, which could be done easily within three years, estimating the disnensarv profits to the town at: $2,000 annually. l>y this method the town would be saved the extra tax of probably one mill' to meet the interest of bonds, should the bonding method find general sanction. Moreover the dispensary profits would have virtually erected the building without the advancement of one cent in taxes on the part of the town. It strikes us the latter method is the better one and that it would l>e generally more acceptable to the tax-]Kiyers. | Benson Briefs. Cotton picking goes on very slowl.v as hands are scarce. Most farmers have picked over once and the bulk of the crop is in. The second picking will about finish the gathering of this crop. Corn is turning out a satisfactory yield. The pea crop is good, except in some places, where it is shedding. Sweet potatoes are fine and of good quality. Last Friday Mr J G McCullough had his lir.e milch cowkilled under peculiar circumstances. The cow, while fastened by a rope to a slake in the lot, tried to run through the open stable door when she turned a somersault and broke her neck. W. S. G. Card of Thanks.
