Mr J L Thomas, whose farm is c

The tent meeting near town is at
tracting large crowds. Mrs stepnen
Lee is doing the preaching, and
while she seems to be very earnest I
fear very little good is being done.
The conduct of some of the young
men is simply disgraceful, notwith- ^
standing the severe scoldings given
them by the preacher.
Mr R F Braveboy and Miss Carrie
Rodgers were married Sunday af- |
ternoon by Rev W E Hicks. The |
happy couple are well known young
people aud have many friends in the

The public school here opened
Monday morning. Miss Minnie Gasque
of Friendtield has charge. She is
an efficient and experienced teacher
and will, we are sure, give perfect
satisfaction to all concerned.

Williamson of Cades, came to town
iu search of a young negro man by
the name of Louis Mouzon, who was
wanted for obtaining goods from Mr
A A May, under false pretenses. Mr i
Williamson found Mouzon working
on the railroad with a construction
force, abouta mile from town, and
undertook to execute the warrant,
but Mouzon resisted^ Mr Williamson
came back to Scranton and got
Messrs W S Kennedy and R F Mc- j
Knight and went back after Mouzon,
but he found him in no notion to
surrender, and when he attempted
:o arrest him Mouzon again resisted,
laving he would not be arrested. He
vas armed with a heavy iron rod
ibout three and a half feet long. Ho
ittempted to run off and Constable
iVilliamson told him to halt, but he
efused do so. Mr Williamson fired
>n him with a pistol but did not hit
liin. He tired sevenil other shots, the

Magistrate Baldwin was notified

There was a cutting affray at Coward's
Sunday in which four young
