I A delightful picnic was given j
? at the residence ot Mr. W. P. Mc- J
f dill last Tuesday. Quite a number
of people were present and
the day was pleasantly spent by
all. The morning hours sped all
too quickly for the young folk in
in social chat, punctuated with
merry laughter, while the older
ones discussed more serious affairs,

i their ininds reverting to incidents
of by-gone days.
^ At one o'clock we gathered
about a table heavily laden with
dainty edibles and every one
seemed to be blessed with a hearty
appetite to enjoy the elegant
spread before them.
The afternoon was devoted to
games and other diversions, including
dehghtlul music rendered
on the organ by Mrs. W. B. Gregg,
the beautiful and attractive
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. VV. 1\
McGill.
'Ihe guitar in the hands of Mr.
S B. McGil! lent its exquisite
chords to the harmony of the
organ.

The merry picnickers lingered
until a late hour and when time
came to separate none departed
without a distinct recollection of
a day of unalloyed pleasure.

On last Friday, the people of
this, and adjoining sections met n
at the residence of Mr. W. M. Me- ' n]
Orea and enjoyed a first classic
basket picnic. The day was some- j ^
what warm and sultry, but a good ; ,

crowd was in attendance, and all j
seem co enjoythe occasion. About I j.
two o'clock the baskets were on- j ^
loaded, the table spread, which!
seemed to groan under the weight i to
of all kinds of eatables. The pic- j ^
nickers did not hesitate to relieve j ^
the table of its burden. All spent ; 14
the day pleasantly, some discuss- j ing
politics, others playing games,! (J
buggy riding, etc. Late in the a!- &
ternoon a break in the crowd be-:
pan, but the young folks stayed j i
until after supper, which included
a pindar boiling. All had a
good time and went home happy.
Mr. W. E. Snowden made a flying
trip to his home folks last
Sunday.
We have had heavy rains re- j
ceutly, and it is feared that .should I
there not be a change in the
weather the open cottr?n will be
seriously damaged, and rot in the
boils, there is in places at least j
tialf of the cotton open, and if P1
that is lost a short crop will be
