Mr. Hartwell Graham, a former
Kingstree boy who~*has been loca

has transferred his citizenship to
Wilmington.
Mr. and Mrs. C. E. St. Amand
have moved to town, and are accupying
a cottage on Church street
Their many friends are glad to
welcome them to town.
The County board of Commissioners
did not hold their regular
monthly meeting Monday on account
of having to attend the Campaign
meeting at Johnsonville
Tuesday.
Mr. 8ol Jacobs, who is in the employ
of the A. C. L. railroad at
Arcadia, Fla., spent Sunday in
town. Mr. Jacobs is a son of Mr.
Bernhardt Jacobs, who formerly
lived ia Kingstree.

was here Monday and Tuesday as
a principal in a reference case be

Rev. L. J. Bristow, the former
editor of Thk County Rkcorp,
is conducting a revival meeting at
Privateer, in Clarendon county.
We hope he will accomplish much
good in the Lord's vineyard.
C. W. Wolfe, Theo. Gourdin and
J. J. Graham left here Monday afternoon
for Johnsonville to attend
the first county campaign meeting.
The campaign party will be here
an Wednesday, August 20th.
Mr. Marvin Martin, while out
driving yesterday morning with
Mr. Joe Hirschman, of Charleston,
was thrown from his buggy and
had his. hand badly hurt, from
which he suffered intense pain.
W. L. Bass, Esq., of Lake CKy,
has filed his pledge and entered the
race for the legislature. His card
appears in this issue. Mr. Bass itg
ana of the ablest men in the field'
and will recieve strong support.
Mr. L. H, McCullough, a recent
gradulate of Clerason College, was
in town Monday, and paid us a call.
Mr. McCullough is an energetic
and brainy .young man, and will
doubtless achieve a successful
careet.
Mr. B. ii. Nexsen, better known
as toBush," has purchased the saw
m!M of Mr. P. A. Alsbrook, and
will continue the business at the
sameold stand. Mr. Alsbrook will
devote his attention to merchandiking.
The farmers would do well lo
keep a watch on Kings tire cotton
market this fall. Several buyers,
representing the principal cotton
axporters, will be here during the
reason and will pay the top of the
market for the fleecy stajdy.
Col. Geo. 8. Barr, wfco has bee*
prostrated several w,eeks with
fever, is still a very sine man, but
hi* friends hope that he will soon
recover. Drs. Scott and Gamble
have his ease in charge, and are
giving all necessary medical attention.
J. Cleveland McEIveen of Spring
Bank was here Tuesday and re
newed his frienu?M|) with the editor
of Tiir Rkcokd. Mr. McKlveen
is a young man of solid worth,
mm) impresses all with whom he
comes in contact with his high
character.
Mr. J. P, Nelson, who has been
on the sick list several weeks, ia
able to resume his duties in the
Rkcorp office again. Mr. J. H.
Friend, who has been on the
Rkcord force in Mr. Nelson's
place, will take his departure for
Norfolk this week to take a position
there.
Mr. P. 8, Courtenay left for Richmond
the fir^t of th" week to purchase
his fall stock of goods. Hfc
will do business in the old Benjamin
store, which is being fitted up
for his use. Mr. Courtenay is a
hustler, and we would not l>o surprised
to see him become a leading
merchant of the town.

Mr. H. J. Brown, a leading member
of the Baptist church here, is
out soliciting help to repair his
church and also to bhilt an addition
; of several feet more to the edifice, to
! be used as a baptistry. He has
' already collected $30 towards this
worthy cause, and hopes to raise
enough to bore an artesian well at
this church also.
The . Baptist meeting here closed
last week with 13 additions to the
church. Rev. T. J. Rooke, who
conducted the meeting, certainly
did earnest and faithful work, and we
suppose he feels that his labors were
not in vain. . .
Cades is still on a boom, and there
is some talk of erecting an oil mill
; here later on. Several of our local
! business men are ready to take stock

TK? Summer School.
The second week of the summer
school is drawing to a close, and
both teachers and students are making
satisfactory progress with their
work. Professors Cooke and Owens
are earnest and energetic workers
and are laboring industriously to
i instruct the teacher-students in the
j'best and most approved methods of
imparting instruction to the youth!
ful mind. The new and advanced
ideas in school work are discussed
daily, and the teachers are getting
in fine shape for the final examination
at the end of the session.
