Sopptnr A. Ii. Williams went
to Columbia last week. Mr. Cash
Epps returned with him, and is
now at his fathers, near Cades.
Mr, L. 0. Hollowav, the Ameri
can Tobacco Co's. representative,
came in last night, and will be
with us this season. He was accompanied
by Mr. ^Durham, his
Iraanor
Hon. \V. H. Wells of Florence
spent a (lav last week in our town
on legal business in connection
with other . matters. He is seeking
to represent Florence in the
State Senate for the coming lour
years.
Mr. Carter,of the lirm of Henry !
Elwell & Co., produce commission
merchants of New York, was
in town a few days ago. Mr.
Carters house does a good deal ot1
business with the truckers of this
section.

Mr. lieorge l. liurneu, mc
Florence tinner and plumber, was
at work here last week on Mr. A.
N. Sutcliffe's house. We beheve
that Mr. Burnett controls all the
work in his line in our town, and
gives satislaction.
A protracted meeting was begun
at the Methodist church {Sunday,
and will continue through
the week. The pastor is being
assisted by Revs. S. S. Gasque
and W. P. Gause. Services are
being held each day at 4 p. m.
and S 30 p. m.
Little Kosa, the two-year-old
daughter ol Mr. and Mrs. IL C.
Godwin, breathed out her little
life last'Friday. On Saturday she
was lard in her tiny bed in the
Baptist churchyard, and was left
alone with her God, who sent her
to brighten a home ior a short
while and then leave it desolate.
Our sympathies are with the
% stricken ones.
Judge Baldwin again dons the
judicial robe which lie laid aside
a few years ago. He has been
appointed magistrate, Vice J. II.
I). Gaskins resigned. Judge Bald
win made a first-rate magistrate
during his former tenure, and we
are quite sure the choice this time
is a wise one. He may occasionally
be away from his office, but
this should be excused, as lie is
a single man.
Mr. T. J. Revnolds, who buys
for the R. J. Reynolds Co., the
manufacturers of tiie famous
"R. J. K." tobacco, has again taken
iiis place on our market. .Mr.
Reynolds was here two years ago,

much improved, and we are glad,
to see him with us again. He buys '
good tobacco only, and when a!
pile of weed goes on the floor he
secures it or the other man pays
dear for his prize. Air. Reynolds
tells us that he is thinking ot
making his home here. We hope
he will do this.
Tobacco is pouring in at a lively
rate and the prices are good. Yes,
very good. Saturday's soles were
especially heavy and high. Mr.
C. R. Weaver sold, some of which
brought as high as 27 cents. Mr.
J. I. McCants had a good load for
which he received fine prices, one
lot brought 32 cents. This is the
highest wo nave heard of this season.
It seems that anything having
the appearance of tobacco
will sell. One man had a pile
which contained the whole thing,
stems, leaves, roots and all?the
entire stalk pulled up and cured.
I This brought 54 cents.
It appears a little strange, yet
i it seems true, that the unmarried
i tobacco men who come here do
i nm rptn:iin loillf. This is
rapidly becoming not only a fine
! tobacco market but a first-rate
bachelor market. Manager Hall
was the first to quit a single blessedness.
Ilis partner soon followed
suit. And now another one will
j go under the hammer next Sunday.
This one has been crying
ua half and a ha't" until he has
concluded to take on the other
half. When seen vesterdav lie
j seemed a little "skittish/'but he
, is trying to keep up a brave front
notwithstanding the guying. He
has our hearty wishes lor a happy
future.

some time time ago for treatment.
! He is much improved in health,
1 and we are glad to welcome him

Rev. William Roof is conducting
a pro:racted meeting iu the

To meet the demand of his increasing
patronage. G. L. Sauls

and otherwise improve his already
large store.

glad to say.
M. D. Nesinith loft Monday for
Marion to take charge ot the
branch store recently established
by his progressive firm in that
county. Mr. Nesmith's friends?
whose name is legion?regret his
removal very much, but wish him
great success in his new place of
business.
Water from the artesian well
near the Methodist church has
made its way right in front of the
church, and the people are put to
a good deal of inconvenience gelting
in the sanctuary dry footed.
If its course is not changed soon
it will be in a worse plight than
now and require more work to put
it in order.
