James and children of Scranton are visiting relatives near town. Mrs. R. T. Parker and two daughters, who have been living here for a number ol years, moved in liporirefowii last week. They wil! conduct a boarding house in Georgetown. Miss Dessie McElveen of Hebron is spending some time with the family of Mr. J. T. McElveen, near town. Tobacco curing is keeping the farmers around here quite busy. Those who have sold part of their crops are well satisfied with the proceed*. 1 Quite a number of the young folks from here attended the picnic at Lake City Friday, while a good many of the older men went to Kmgstree to hear tlie would-be senators talk. Both occasions are' reported to have been fully up to what wa6 expected. The railroad force here has com-; raenced work on another switch] line, which, when completed, will j furnish a siding lor about 40 box cars. The new switch will enable trains to pass at this point without using the warehouse switch, which is sometimes the cause of delay. Our^ enterprising citizen, J. N. Sauls, is building a tram road from here to the belt of timber lying a few miles west of this place, which timber he has recently acquired by purchase. Mr. Sauls is pushing the work with a vim, and will soon have his track completed. Ivanhoe, | Taft Topics. jj Crops look well, but are need-| ingrain. The weather is scorch-i ing hot. Very little sickness is! noted. | Picnics and dancing parties are very much the go just now. On one-quarter acre of truck Mr. W. D. Bryan gathered 48 bushels of Irish potatoes; he planted three pecks of onion sets and made 20 bushels oh onions. The Atlantic Coast Lumber Company shut down on July 4. , Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Bryan will leave for Asheville, N. C.. on the 7th. They will go by Glenn Sprines on their trip to the moun tains. No candidates have visited us yet, although we have received cards from a tow.
