Authoritative announcement is made of extensive additions of machinery just completed by the Golden Beit Manufacturing Co. of Durham, N. C. This company's plant at Edgemont, a suberb of Durham, has previously been operating 1G.C00 spindles and 4u0 looms; to this has been added 8416 spindles and 240 looms. This gives the plant a total of 24,416 spindles, 640 looms, opening machinery, carding apparatus and fall complement required. This company produces cloth and manufactures same into sacks for shot, coin, seed, etc., made in any size, with printing. It is probable that more than $120,000 was expanded for the additional machinery mentioned. The following are official quotations on cottonseed and cottonseed products as posted at the Cotton Exchange in New Orleans on the 16th inst.: Prime refined oil in barrels, 4314 cents per gallon; off refined oil in barrels, 4214 tents per gallon; prime crude oil, loose, 3514 cents per gallon; off crude, nominal per gallon; prime cottonseed cake, $27.50 per ton of 2240 pounds; off do, nominal; prime cottonseed meal, $27 per ton of 2240 pounds; off do., nominal; soap stock, 1.50 cents per pound; linters, per pound?A. 3% cents; B, 314 cents; C, 314 cents; cottonseed in sacks delivered in New Orleans, $16 per ton oi 2000 pounds; in bulk delivered in New Orleans, $15 per ton of 2000 nounds. The Independent Refining Co. ha? been chartered, with a capital of $50,000. The works and plant of the company will be located at Charleston, S. C. The stock-holders are Mpssrs. C. A. Woods, Marion; E. K. Durgan and Bright Williamson, Darlington; W. F. Stephenson, Cherav; Morris Israel and R. B. Lebby, Charieston; H. C. Hardison, Wadesboro, and other prominent stockholders in various cottonseed-oil mills in South Carolina. The company expects to handle CO,000 barrels of oil during the season. Ta., has been chartered, with a capital stock of $10,000. The incorporators are J. N. Schoctleford, E. W. Flojd, Robert L. Ruddell, John E. De Loach Milling Co. of Atlanta, Ga., was destroyed by fire on the 13tb inst? entailing a loss estimated at $75,000, partially covered by insurance. Five thousand feet of lumber, the property of the company, were also destroyed. The plaining mill of the Tallafcalla Lumber Co. at Laurel, Miss., was destroyed by fire on the 8th inst The loss Is estimated at $20,000, with $8000 insurance. The other buildings and loading sheds were saved. The dry-kiln of the Dixie Mill of Mobile. Ala., owned by Blackshear & Co. together with 60,000 feet of lumber, were destroyed by fire last week. The loss Is total, with Insurance on kiln and lumber $3500. Edgemont Cotton Mills, Durham. N. C.. has completed Installation of additional machinery, Including 240 looms and 8500 spindles. This increases tbe plant to 25,500 spindles and 520 looms. It is stated that a cotton mill will be built at Talladega, Ala., incidental to the establishment of a water-powerelectrical plant by the Talladega Company (reported as capitalized at $600,000 and with headquarters in Pittsburg. Pa.) which has just been grantrd franchises. Textile Notes. It is reported that Tavora Cotton Mills of Yorkville, S. C.. will install 100 looms and other machinery to change its product to fancy cotton cloth. An expenditure of about $15,000 is said to be contemplated. Messrs. H. M. Wilson, J. C. Gate, II. ' B. Burn and W. L. Forrest have incorporated the Crescent Hosiery Co. at Nashville, Tenn., with capital of $12,500. Clifton (S. C.) Manufacturing Co. has declared an extra dividend (not a semi-annual, as stated recently) of 2 per cent, regular semi-annual divi. dend is 4 per cent, and this extra divi- , dend makes a total of 10 per cent for 1 the year.
