members he has changed his appointment
at Cades from 4 o'clock
to 8 p. m.
During a thunder storm last
Saturday afternoon lightning
struck the wires and completely
demolished one of Nesmith Bros',
'phones. The wires were burned
in two right at the instrument
Fortunately no one was near
enough 10 be shocked. The telegraph
wires were struck also, and
the switch-board ignited. For
tunately, Mr. Creech, (he agent,
1 was in the office and extinguished
the fire before it made any headway.

Farmers are rushing their work
all along the line. Crops are |j*
good generally and if seasons hold
out more corn will be made in
Williamsburg than for several
year9 past. The cotton fields also j,
are smil.ng in rich luxuriance.

made a curing of tobacco.
Tobacco is generally flourishing:

blast. Mr. Tyler Gaskins has a
very fine crop of the weed.
In quick succession, week before
last, both joy and sorrow entered
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Darby
McDaniel of Jay. Two lit tie girls
came to brighten their home fot ~~
a few fleeting dav> and were taken
away by the angel of death. One
of the twins lived two days and
the other a day or two longer. "
On Saturday, June 7, lightning
struck the house oI Mr. Edward
Powell of Johnsonville, knocking
