Press Association Meeting, j
I
The editor had the pleasure of <
meeting with the brethren of the ]
quill in Georgetown during three J
days of last week. As time is J
measured only three days were
#peni in the uCity on the Sampit,"
but ?f time be measured by unal- (
loyed enjoyment we think the '
newspaper men would unani- j
mously agree that they mu6t have 1
stayed in Georgetown at least six r
months. Nothing was done or left I
* - *
undone by the committees dui *
that which afforded most pleasure
to their guests, and if it were
riacticable it is certain that each ,
newspaper represented at the association
would eheertully and
willingly get out. a Georgetewn
edition. 1
From the time we alighted ,
from the cars we were made to ,
ieel that lor the time being ]
Georgelowu and everything in the ,
.grand old city belonged to us
Such genuine and unaffected hos- ,
pitality could not but produce a (
feeding of reciprocation and not a '
person present, however unre- ^

departed without a feeling of J
kindness deep dowu in his heart
for the people of Georgetown that 1
mere words could not adequately <
express. There have been many ;
tneetiugs of the association and ,
various places have vied with ;
one another to shower courtesies
wpon the genial representatives of i
the press, but in the opinion ol !
the veterans of the body George- ,
town has eclipsed them all. <
Where all seemed to strive to
the utmost to do us honor it is a <
matter of much difficulty to indi- 1
vidualize; yet there were som; i
whose attentions were so marked 1
that they deserve special mention. ?
Among those may be named
Mayer Morgan and the Board oi! I
Trade, the Balmetto Club, the i I
Atlantic (.'east .Lumber to. ana i
the Georgetown and Western j
llaiimad Co., which furnished us
free transportation to the city.
The members of our party were j
assigned to the homes of the'
citizens of Georgetown, where we
were made to feel that we were
honored guests. It was the good
iortuue of the writer, along with
Mr. J. Ed. Noriuent, of the News
and Courier, to stay with Mr.
Walter Hazard. Mr. Hazard has
au ideally lovely home and is a j
charming host, and iritlv lor three
day* our hues were fallen in pieas-1
ant places. Mr. Hazard was also'
unremitting in his altentions toj
the association aud everyone felt J
gtaiiQed that, ke was elected an j
honorary member lor life.
Not the least pleasant feature
of our entertainment was the ex-:
cnrsiou to North Island and the
a?ee?t ol the light house tower.
On this trip we were shown how '
the fishermen put oat their nets|
to catch shad and other fishes.1
This was a novel sights especially ,
in the brethren irom Ike up;
corn* try.
The banquet Friday night was
r. ,
' ' " N .
literally "a feast of reason and a
low of soul" and surpassed in
elegance anything of the kind
that most of us had erer attended,
rhere was a long list of toasts and
the responses were of such elo:jeunce
as can only be inspired by
such an occasion.
One toast, had it been offered
would have met with the heartiest
response of them all: ''The people
of Georgetown, rich in hospi
tality and social amenities, may
peace and happiness smile upon
:bem> and may the choicest gifts
)t heaven be theirs I or all time.-'
After nearly two years ot' a war

By the terms of the surrender the
Boers become subjects of King

this kind of business. It never has
been attempted here before. It is
purely experimental, and whether it

the support the people shall give it. ^
In this day and age in order to keep
