Now I Lay Me.
Now I lav me down to sleep:
(Closer, Death, to the I ereep!)
?S?> I prayed in days gone by,
So I pray as Night draws nigh.
Now I lay me down to sleep:
God His wttle child will keep.
Vow T Inv me.?God has keDt
Watch above me while I slept.
Earth has been a goodlier place
For the shining of His face.
Should I die before I wake,
God His little child will take!

A Story of a Sucker.
A man who smokes four cijrars
a dav atid chews 25 cents worth
of tobacco a week said he was too
rv.nr to take a local paper. He is
r* -
a smart man. too. And economical
I should smile. This saving
fellow was.celling a Maine story
paper, and found by sending a
dollar he could get a cure for
drunkenness. Sure enough he
did. It was "take the pledge and
keep it." Later on he sent 50
two cent stamps to find out how
to raise beets successfully. He
found out. The answer "just
hold and pull." Being sing'e he
wished to marry and sent 34 one
cent stamps to a Chicago firm to
learn how to make an impression.
When the answer came it read:
"Sit down on a pan of dough.''
That was a little tough; but he
was a patient man and thought he
would yet succeed. The next ad
vertisement he read, "how to
double his money in six months."
He wis told to convert Ins money
into bills, fold them and he would
see hi.s money doubled. But he
was bound to get some useful secret
by which he could make money,
and sent $5 to find out how to
write without pen and ink. The
answer was, 4,try a lead pencil:^
Then he sent a dollar to learn
how to get rich?"work like the
devil and never spend a cent."
This was discouraging; but he decided
to irv .rnce more and sent a
dollar hill to learn how to live
without work and was told to
"fish for suckers as we do." lie
