Mrs. Louis Stackley was called to
Florence yesterday on account of
the illness of her niece, the daughter
of Mrs. George Stackley.
Wh are pleased to note that Cadet
E. C. Register has recovered
from his long and painful illness
and on last Tuesday wa.<$ able to
return to Charleston to report for
duty at the Citadel.
Monday was sales day, but only
one tract of land was sold. Under
foreclosure of mortgage 53 acres in
Johnson township belonging to
William T. Gaillard were sold to
Alton Salters, the mortgagee, for
$2.3.
Miss Maud Chaplin, whose school
at Indiantown closed last week,
spent Friday night with the Misses
Kennedy and on Saturday went to
Lake City to visit her school-mate,
Miss Eva Rollins, a f<;\v days before
returning to her home at Rock Hill.
Capt. J. S. Beck, who was at one
time a resident of Williamsburg
and held the office of sheriff in this
county, died in Florence last Friday
night. Capt. Beck was a brave
Confederate soldier and bore the
esteem and respect of all who
knew him.
Miss Edith Kelson returned home
Saturday from Charleston, where
she has been for some time at the
bedside of her sick brother, Mr. j1
Frank Nelson. We are glad toi
learn that Mr. Nelson is a good ;
deal better and now has a good
chance of recovery.
We have been requested to announce
that the cloning exercises
of Wayside school, taught by Prof. ,
W. O. Wilson, will take place on
Friday evening, May 23, the exercises
commencing at 8 o'clock.
The public is cordially invited to
attend. Wayside school is m Clarendon
county near the Williamsburg
line. ,
Quite an enjoyable dance was
given at the Coleman House, Thursday
night, May 1, complimentary to
the several young ladies who were
visiting in town last week. At
midnigh ^refreshments were served,
after which the dancing was continued
into the early hours of the
morning. Music for the occasion
was furnished by the Mouzon orchestra.
Col. .T. G. Wardlaw, of Gaffney,
was in town last week for a Jay or
two. Col. Wardlaw, who is a kinsman
of Rev. F. H. Wardlaw of
Indiantown. is also connected with
the Witherspoon family and was
quite anxious to trace the genealogy
of his kindred of that name. On '
ithis business he visited Salters and
other places where the Witherspuon
family used to live in this
county.
We are now giving our readers a

the primary system, which is taken

Kennedy Monday and requested
him to stand for the State Senate.

new aspirants for political honors,
Messrs N. M. venters, A M. Cook
and J. J. Graham, all of whom seek |
the same office? county supervisor.
They are all well known citizens ol
the county, pood men and true, and
each one, we have no doubt, would,
if elected, do his full duty as supervisor.
