Mr. M. D. Nesmith, of Cades,

There were no sales Monday and
the day passed off quietly, there being
not a great many visitors in
town.
Mr. Will Evans, a prominent
merchant of Marlboro county, was
among the visitors to our town
Monday.

hours Monday on legal business.
Mr. W. N. Jacobs is home for a
few days recuperating from an at-1
tack of fever. Mr. Jacobs holds a j
position with II. Kaminski, of
Georgetown.

X. Gunter was in town Monday on
legal business. Mr. Gunter is a
prominent candidate for attorney
general in the next campaign.
Messrs Gagg, Oliver & Co., reopened
their store last Tuesday
and are now ready to serve their
friends and customers. They have
a large stock of salable merchandise,
which will be disposed of at
very low prices. We invite attention
to their advertisement in another
colum.
The closing exercises pf the Charleston
Medical College took place
last week. Dr. It, C. Garland, of
Lake City, graduuted in pharmacy '
with second honor and was awarded
a gold medal. l)r. Garland will
locate at Timmonsville. The other

Tuesday morning of last week
Mrs. N. O. Poston, of Venters, suffered
the misfortune of losing her
residence and most of the contents
Her loss is $1,000 with no insurance.
The house caught fire while the
family were at breakfast and is
supposed the fire originated from
a spark from the kitchen stove.
Mrs. Voston is a widow with sev
entl small children and an ajjeu
mother dependent upon her. Her
misfortune excites universal sympathy.

college and has resumed his
position as assistant druggist in Dr.
Gamble's drug store.
Mr. A. W. Chandler of Gourdins
passed through town Wednesday
en route to Harmony Presbytery,
which is in session at Rethel
church, Clarendon county.
The Young Men';; Social Club
gave a dance Thursday night in the
Gilland cottage on West Main
Street. A number of young ladies
and gentlemen attended and the
occasion was a pleasurable one to
all who participated.
Cadet E. C. Register came home
Thuisday from the Citadel Academy
on sick leave. Cadet Register
has been afflicted with rheumatism
for some time and is still very unwell.

We are informed on good authority
that Senator A. H. William will
probably enter the race to succeed
himself, all reports to the contrary
notwithstanding. Senator Williams
is being urged by his friends
all over the county to staHd for
renomination to his present position
and he will probably have no opposition.
It would be difficult to find
a man to succeed him who would
wield as much influence as Senator
Williams, or in whom the majority
of the people would place the same
confidence.
