Gold From Mine Watsra.

copper the gold was found deposited in :
places, especially near three bolt-holes.
In the form of bright yellow plates.
It was firmly attached to the iron, and
had probably been deposited by the ;
electrical action of the iron-copper
couple from traces of chlorine In the
acid mine water. No gold, however,
could be detected in the mine water.
To the triumph of modern surgery
there is scarcely a .Mmit. Nothing apparently
is beyond ths reach of the
confident and daring hand that wields
the life saving blade. The hitherto
hidden recesses of fatal disease are
made into broadening highways for 1
explorative scientific endeavor. No j
organ of the body, from brain to Kidney,
is exempt from successful operative
procedure. Even a stab or bullet
wound of the heart itself is boldly 1
sutured in the short intervals between
uninterrupted pulsations, states Dr.
George L. Shrady, in the Chicago1

dark spot has made 'ts appearance in
the southern hemisphere of the planet,
and its motions are being studied with
much interest by astronomers. Some
twelve years ago a similar spot suddenly
sprang into view and drifted,
with reference to the surrounding surface,
very much as the present one
is doing. When it passed the celebrated
great red spot it seemed to be
driven from its course and afterward
became strung out in a reddish streak,
if the new spot lasts until next July
it will also overtake the red spot and
may suffer a similar fate. These
things are interesting as occurrences
on a world nearly 1,400 times larger
than ours.
The Pepper of the Earth.
This bright particular youngster has
a patriarchi.il wisdom concerning the
tilings or tnis me. aunougn ne occasionally
permits himself an inquiry
into something not quite clear to him.
One evening he was sitting with Aunt
Mary and Aunt Lucretia. Conversation
had turned to the subject of unmarried
women, and the youngster listened
intently. In a pause in the talk
he looked up and asked:
"What are maiden ladies?"
Aunt Mary replied:
"They are ladies who never get married."
The youngster's brow contracted,
and Aunt Mary added, to make things
clearer:
"They are like Aunt Lucretia and
me, the salt of the earth."
Instantly the youngster exclaimed:
"Then those who get married are
the pepper, I suppose."?New York
